The Media Arts Alliance of the Pacific (MAAP) is a growing non-profit arts service organization dedicated to promoting media arts across the Pacific region, particularly the contributions of Indigenous artists. We are a community of media arts professionals and media artists across British Columbia and The Yukon working together to improve the conditions for media art creation, presentation, and distribution in our region.

The MAAP Board of Directors is a working board that collaborates closely with staff to further the organization’s vision and mission. The Board’s role is to guide MAAP, advise and support staff, and connect the organization to media arts communities. The Board consists of individuals with diverse skills, knowledge, experience and perspectives that contribute to MAAP’s vision of a diverse, equitable, and sustainable media arts community.

Volunteer Opportunity Description:

If you are passionate about media arts and are interested in helping guide the future of MAAP, please consider joining our group of dedicated board members.

Board members are individuals who:

- Are passionate about media arts.
- Support the work and purpose of MAAP.
- Wish to share their perspective and learn from others in a collaborative environment.
- Have experience or interest in learning about systems change, advocacy, policy development, organization planning and development, or the support, creation, and promotion of media arts in our Pacific region.

As a Board member, you will:

- Share your ideas and give back to the community.
- Build new relationships and help to grow a regional media arts service organization.
- Learn or enhance skills in governance and leadership.
- Gain experience to grow your artistic or arts administration career.

Responsibilities:

The MAAP Board is a working board, and directors are expected to:

- Attend bi-monthly meetings via zoom (approx. 1.5hrs, 6 times per year)
- Actively participate in committee work and support the Regional Director
- Attend the MAAP AGM via zoom (annually in June)
- Attend in-person meetings (average once per year, travel expenses paid by MAAP)
- Attend MAAP events and programming where possible
- Each term is a 1-year commitment; we encourage a minimum commitment of 2 terms

MAAP has Directors & Officers Insurance.

Qualifications:

We welcome new board members to share their experiences and perspective in a collaborative and welcoming environment. No previous Board experience necessary.

MAAP focuses on equity and anti-oppressive values to better serve, support, and reimagine the sector. We especially encourage nominees from diverse communities, including Indigenous, Black, people of color, people who identify with lived experience of disability, queer and gender diverse individuals, age-diverse, and those living in non-urban areas.

How to Apply:

NOMINATION PROCESS

The MAAP Board will present candidates for election at the MAAP Annual General Meeting on Wednesday June 5th 2024 @ 12pm PST by Zoom. The Board Recruitment Committee makes recommendations based on applicants’ experience and interest, board composition, regional representation, and principles of equity to develop a board to best serve the objectives and needs of the organization. Nominees must be available to attend the AGM.
