Volunteer Support: Legacy of Art and Vision
/ORGANIZATION:
Federation of Canadian Artists
DEADLINE:
October 18, 2025
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
Founded in 1941 by iconic Canadian artists—including Group of Seven luminaries Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, and Emily Carr—the FCA is a nationally recognized registered charity dedicated to advancing visual arts across Canada, with over 2,800 members. As the country’s largest visual arts organization, our mission is to elevate artistic standards, nurture emerging and professional artists, and foster a deep appreciation of Canadian art and culture.
The organization specializes in hosting exhibitions (24 at the FCA Gallery in 2024, 6 hosted online in 2024), as well as a retreat for members and non-members once a year and a legacy event yearly, which also hosts an exhibition. We help to spotlight an artist for two months at a time from our window gallery, given to non-FCA members to help showcase community artists in a high-traffic location.
Outside of this, we also offer varying levels of programming—from community open studio nights with low-cost entry, to in-person master classes with top-level mentors, to retreats where mentors work for five days with artists, and online classes and lunch-and-learn sessions for those who cannot participate in person.
The organization is working on adapting as we move forward, now offering alumni memberships at a discounted rate but with all the perks our members receive, as well as discounted studio space. We’ve recognized a gap for artists who are fresh out of art school and have lost access to resources they had in school. We’re also focused on offering our studio space to the general public for rental, with goals of making renovations to expand its offerings and capabilities.
We support all of our chapters across the nation by helping to administrate memberships and meet each chapter’s needs. We are currently working to unify all online profiles and websites to ensure that all chapters share a cohesive aesthetic and unified front.
In short, the organization helps to disseminate and sell our members’ artwork, offer educational programming, create innovative membership options to support emerging artists, and provide studio space to help produce more creations.
