The North Vancouver Community Arts Council (North Van Arts) is grassroots, social-profit, charitable cultural organization dedicated to maximizing the intrinsic value of the arts in all media. Our mandate is to enable emerging and professional artists in all disciplines, to bridge cultures, and to build strong and healthy communities through the arts. The Society aims to provide opportunities for artists and the broader community through programs, projects, exhibitions, and cultural events throughout the North Shore and advocate for arts and culture on behalf of our community. Volunteer Opportunity Description:
ROLE OVERVIEW
The North Vancouver Community Arts Council (North Van Arts) is seeking nominations for new Board members. We are looking for thoughtful and active members of our community from diverse backgrounds with connection to North Vancouver and the arts.
START DATE Those chosen for nomination will officially be voted into the board of directors at our next AGM, on October 27th, 2026
Responsibilities:
Board Directors are responsible for
• Attending 7 board meetings annually
• Attending 1 AGM annually
• Participating in at least one committee
BOARD MEETINGS, AGM & COMMITTEES
Board meetings take place in the evenings (generally 7-9 pm), the third Tuesday in the month either online or at CityScape Gallery, 335 Lonsdale Avenue, in North Vancouver, currently 7 times a year.
The AGM takes place annually in early Fall, generally in October. Currently there are three working committees: Governance, Membership & Fundraising, and Finance.
TERMS OF OFFICE
Terms of office for this volunteer position is one year for the first year on the Board, beginning at the AGM, with options after that for continuing the Board in 2-year terms for a maximum of 7 years served. The North Vancouver Community Arts Council Board is a Governance Board, overseeing the operations of a non-profit, charitable society managed by a full-time Executive Director. There are working committees that the Board members can participate in.
Qualifications:
Board of Directors must:
• Reside in North Vancouver
• Have strong passion or connect to the Arts Additional Assets
• Work or have worked as a professional artist
• Experience in fundraising, communications, business etc.
• Financial management expertise (with a plan to transition to the Treasurer role in the future)
• Skills and experience for the role of Secretary
TIME COMMITMENT
• 2-3 hours per month of volunteer time and work which includes meetings and some written work as needed.
REMUNERATION
This role is an unpaid volunteer position.
