CALL FOR ARTISTS:
City of Burnaby provides residency opportunities for emerging and established artists.
Burnaby, BC – Artists can immerse themselves in the tranquil and inspiring natural setting of Deer Lake Park to work on creative projects through the City of Burnaby’s Artist in Residence program. Located on the ancestral and unceded territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Skwxwù7mesh speaking peoples, Deer Lake provides an environment for artists to examine, create and refine artistic practices.
Cultural amenities around Deer Lake Park include Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Art Gallery and Burnaby Village Museum. The live-in accommodations consist of two heritage homes: Baldwin House, designed in 1963 by renowned Canadian architect Arthur Erickson, and Eagles Estate, built in 1929 by former owners Drs. Blythe and Violet Eagles. Art studios and community engagement spaces are available at the Arts Centre, Gallery and Museum, and may include Burnaby Public Library, parks and recreation/community centres.
Visual artists, performers, musicians, land-based practitioners, poets, writers, ceramicists and more are encouraged to apply online for this program. Residencies typically range from two to six weeks and include housing and/or studio use. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2026 at 5 pm (PST).
The intention of the residency is to provide time and space for professional artists with emerging to established practices to create new work. Resident artists may work with the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Art Gallery and Burnaby Public Library staff to support artist-led community engagement projects aligned with the requirements of each residency. Alongside housing, resident artists will have access to rehearsal spaces and studios as well as other resources to support their creative endeavours.
