Call for Mural Artists: Crescent Park Pottery Studio

CALL FOR ARTISTS:
The City of Surrey is inviting expressions of interest to design and paint a mural for the Crescent Park Pottery Studio, along with a corresponding design for a vinyl wrap on a small storage container. Crescent Park is a 52-hectare destination park in South Surrey, featuring walking paths through second-growth forest, ponds, streams, and small meadows. The site is home to several bird species and serves as a refuge for migratory birds. The eastern portion of the park includes baseball diamonds, tennis and pickleball courts, a playground, and a multi-purpose field. The Crescent Park Pottery Studio, located in this area, was formerly the park’s caretaker site and was repurposed in 2023 into a fully equipped pottery studio. It has since become an important space for potters to gather, create, and share knowledge and skills. The mural design should address all four façades of the building and the small storage unit, and should feel at home in the park setting, considering the site as a creative centre at the edge of a forested area and the dialogue that unfolds between.
HOW TO APPLY:

Your submission must include: Contact Details (name, address, email, and phone number); Letter of Intent (maximum 300 words) outlining your interest in the project and site; CV (including past commissions, exhibitions, education, and/or relevant experience; if applying as a team, include one for each member); Artist Statement (maximum 300 words); Portfolio (up to 10 images of past work, including titles, date, description, and materials); and combine all materials into a single PDF document (10MB maximum).
FEES/COMPENSATION:
The total budget for the selected artwork is $20,000, inclusive of artist fees, design, materials and equipment, insurance, fabrication, travel, and taxes.
