Langley Arts Council Membership Requirements:

Artwork Eligibility:
Please ensure your work follows the LAC's definition of an 'Original Artwork.'

Original artwork is created at the hand of the artist who is submitting the work. The creation process must be the effort of a single individual to convey their interpretation of an image or multiple images. Submitting artists are allowed to use reference photos to inspire their work, but artists must use their design and composition for the final artwork to be considered original.

If you are submitting a photo medium, please ensure the main focal point of the image was taken by the artist and is not a stock image. We do allow stock images to be used in submitted artworks. However, it must not make up more than 30% of the entire finished artwork.

Solo Shows:
– The exhibiting artist must be a member of the Arts Council at the time of their exhibition.
– Artists submitting for a solo exhibition cannot submit to the same venue for two consecutive exhibition years.
– Artists applying for a solo exhibition can submit works that are over 5 years old, as long as they are not over 50% of the submitted works for the proposed exhibition, and provide context to the theme.

Duo Exhibitions:
– Both exhibiting artists must hold an Arts Council membership at the time of their exhibition.
– Artists applying for a duo exhibition can submit works that are over 5 years old, as long as they are not over 50% of the submitted works for the proposed exhibition, and provide context to the theme.

Group Shows:
– The artist group must hold a group membership at the time of their exhibition.
– For group exhibitions, we ask that all works be made within the last five years.

All Submitted Artworks:
– Must remain on display for 7 - 10 weeks and until the exhibition comes to a close.
– Must be for sale and must remain until the end of the exhibition.
– Purchased artworks are to be collected by the buyer once the show has come to an end.
– Artwork must not have been exhibited at any of our exhibition spaces.
– Artworks submitted to the Langley Arts Council must not have been created in an art class, lesson, or paint night.

2D Artwork Submission Guidelines:
– All three exhibition spaces can accommodate 2D artworks.
– 2D artworks must be suitably prepared for display.

Wall-mounted work must be appropriately framed or stretched with finished sides and properly wired for hanging, using d-hooks and wire. The D hooks should be 4” from the top of the frame or 1/3 of the height of the frame. The stretched wire should be 2” below the top of the frame. Work not properly prepared will not be exhibited (consult with the Gallery Coordinator regarding any questions or special considerations before applying to exhibit with the Langley Arts Council).

3D Artwork Submission Guidelines:
– At this time, the Main Hall Gallery is the only exhibition space that can accommodate 3D artworks.
– All 3D artworks must come with a display stand to properly display the work.

Sales:
– All sales are handled through the Langley Arts Council during the exhibition.
– Exhibiting artists will be paid once their exhibition has come to a close and the artwork has been picked up by the buyer.
– A 35% LAC commission will be deducted from the artist’s cheque.
– All sales facilitated through the Langley Arts Council following the end of an exhibition are subject to the 35% LAC commission for up to 1 calendar year following the closing date of the exhibition.
