Crazy8s is an 8-day short filmmaking challenge and 5-month program that provides support and funding to emerging filmmakers to produce a short film, while also providing training opportunities to crew and cast. Each year, more than 100 filmmakers apply with their projects to be part of Crazy8s.
Crazy8s is run by the Crazy8s Film Society, a registered British Columbia not-for-profit organization. Its mandate is to foster support for emerging BC-based, Canadian short filmmakers who have limited access to resources or funding to produce professional-quality short-form content. Since 1999, Crazy8s has produced 157 short films that have gone on to win awards at film festivals and receive distribution worldwide.
Crazy8s Film Society believes in equality, diversity and community. The program welcomes contributions from all, and is not limited to, people of varied age, culture, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, language, race, sexual orientation, and religious views.
Crazy8s accepts all genres of live-action, scripted short film pitches, including drama, comedy, science fiction, horror, fantasy, musical, mockumentary, etc. They do not accept animation, Generative AI, or documentary pitches.
All directors, writers, and producers applying to Crazy8s must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents, and must currently be residents of BC.

Registration/Submission Fee:
Early Bird (Sept. 9–25, 2026): $50
Regular (Sept. 26–Oct. 16, 2026): $60
Each of the six finalist filmmakers and their teams will receive:
– $2,000 cash
– Over $50,000 in-kind sponsorship for professional production gear/services
– Professional colour timing + sound mixing
– Professional story editing
– Professional casting services
– Production insurance
– Professional directing/producing/post-production/locations/production design mentorship
