Call for Campfire Stories Night

Halloween is drawing near, and I have scary stories on my mind. My name is Hannah Bel, and I am a writer and visual artist looking to put together a cozy/creepy/community/literary event! It's a true chimera! In collaboration with Steel and Oak Brewing Co. in New Westminster, I am organizing an evening of cozy, scary storytelling.
I am seeking writers to read original scary/campfire stories at this campfire-themed reading. (Think creepy pastas, scary stories to tell in the dark, Tales from the Crypt, and the stories that generally kept us up at night as kids!) Guests and readers will be invited to wear costumes.
When: Tuesday, October 27, 2026, firm
Time: Call time for writers will be between 6:30 and 6:50 p.m. (to be confirmed.) Readings will start around 7 p.m. (this will also be confirmed). The event will run until around 9/9:30 p.m., potentially longer with mingling and visiting.
Where: This reading will be happening LIVE at Steel & Oak Brewing Co. in New Westminster, BC. Please do not query if you cannot physically attend on this date. There will be no virtual component.
What: I am seeking writers to read their 5–7-minute complete original story that falls under the umbrella of "campfire story." (Please do not query if you intend to submit anything AI-generated, partially or in full.)

Attach a 3-page sample of your writing, preferably from the story you intend to read. If you are NOT sending a sample from the story you intend to read, provide a 1–2 sentence pitch of the story you will read along with your writing sample. Writing a story specifically for this event is totally acceptable, as I understand not everyone will have a scary story on deck and ready to go.

Confirmation that you understand this is an in-person event, and should your work be accepted, you can attend in person.
FEES/COMPENSATION:
There are no fees to apply or participate.
There is no monetary compensation for this event. Readers will get one complimentary beer and complimentary marshmallows for roasting (vegan, too). There will be opportunities for readers to plug and share their work. I hope this can be an opportunity for writers to connect with other writers, and a potential readership, in the community.
