After seven years on staff with the Alliance for Arts + Culture, Kevin Dale McKeown has retired from his role as director of community engagement.

Kevin is moving on to other projects, but, as he has said, "this is not a full disengagement"; we're thrilled that he will continue working with the Alliance in the role of project consultant.

"For a career that began in 1970 when I assumed the role of the Georgia Straight’s first theatre reviewer (you’re welcome, Colin Thomas), this sea change is just another adventure in a journey I trust will continue for some years to come," Kevin said. "I look forward to continuing to work with the wonderful staff at the Alliance and all our friends and colleagues in the arts, cultural, and heritage community, and doing a little consulting work as the opportunities arise."

As project consultant, Kevin will produce the Alliance's annual conference this June (formerly our Arts Summit), to be titled "Re:Generation / BC Cultural Roundtable 2016". This year's conference, taking place June 9 at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster, will focus on the issues around developing and supporting the next generation of cultural community workers. He will also continue to develop the BC Cultural Roundtable Network initiative that has emerged out of community consultations held around the province in 2015.

"Kevin’s wealth of experience as a journalist and a publicist gave him a broad perspective on our sector which, in turn, became an incredible asset in his role at the Alliance," said Rob Gloor, the Alliance's executive director. "For virtually every chapter of Vancouver’s cultural history over the past several decades, Kevin has a story from his own experience. Everyone who spends any time with Kevin learns from him. Personally, I feel very honoured to have worked closely with Kevin for the past four years, and thrilled that he will continue to share his talents with the Alliance on various projects moving forward."

As a project consultant for the Alliance Kevin will still be available by email at
