The ceremony for the 13th Annual OVATION! Awards, honouring the best Vancouver musicals of 2016, took place January 29. The winners included:

  • Outstanding Professional Production: Onegin - Arts Club Theatre Company
  • Outstanding Community Production - Large Theatre: Fiddler on the Roof - Royal City Musical Theatre
  • Outstanding Community Production - Small Theatre: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - Fighting Chance Productions
  • Outstanding Chamber Production: Closer Than Ever - Gateway Theatre
  • Outstanding New Work: Onegin, by Amiel Gladstone & Veda Hille - Arts Club Theatre Company
  • Outstanding Music Direction: Caitlin Hayes - Closer Than Ever
  • Outstanding Direction: Amiel Gladstone - Onegin
  • Outstanding Choreography: Suzanne Ouellette - The Music Man
  • Outstanding Set Design: Drew Facey - Onegin
  • Outstanding Costume Design: Fairlith Harvey - Cats
  • Outstanding Lighting Design: Robert Sondergaard - Rent
  • Denis Simpson Outstanding Lead Performance Award (Male): Charlie Deagnon as William Barfee in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Nick Fontaine as Bobby in Company
  • Amy Wallis Outstanding Lead Performance Award (Female): Meg Roe as Tatyana Larin in Onegin
  • Outstanding Supporting Performance (Male/Large Theatre): Josh Epstein as Vladimir Lensky in Onegin
  • Outstanding Supporting Performance (Male/Small Theatre): Ryan Lino as Chip Tolentino in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
  • Outstanding Supporting Performance (Female/Large Theatre): Lauren Jackson as Olga Larin in Onegin and Barbara Pollard as Grandma in Billy Eillot
  • Outstanding Supporting Performance (Female/Small Theatre): Caitlin Clugston as Joanne in Company and Michelle Creber as Grace Lam in Fame
  • Outstanding Chorus Gypsy: Ian Backstrom
  • Outstanding Newcomer: Nolan Fahey as Billy and Valin Shinyei as Michael in Billy Elliot

There was also a special 2016 award granted to the cast of Hair (Renegade Arts Company). as well as the Cheryl Hutcherson Award presented to Paige Fraser and Erin Palm, to fund their continuing studies in the performing arts.
