Anvil Centre Offers Performance and Pro-D Workshop on Equity

On November 28, 2019 at 1 pm, Anvil Centre is offering a performance and a professional development workshop to develop understanding and empathy toward women of colour. Studies show there are unique barriers facing women of colour in achieving equity in Canada. Harsh impacts of social inequity continue to create challenges for employers which take the forms of:

  • ongoing inter-personal conflict,

  • racial and gender based insubordination,

  • stress related illness and poor attendance,

  • low morale

  • the high risks stemming from bullying and harassment between co-workers and by managers toward subordinates

Employers today have a legal and ethical responsibility to remove the systemic barriers to employment and dignity from the workplace. But how do we address racial and gender based biases that are deeply ingrained in our society?

In this unique workshop, participants will share a transformative experience in which the journeys of women of colour become relatable and are shared bravely and directly with audience members. Following the performance, Social Equity workshop leader Sierra Tasi Baker of Sky Spirit Consulting will guide participants in developing practical actions they can take in their day to day work and lives to make positive shifts toward social equity. For employees of colour, the workshop will surely be affirming. For others it will enlighten, transform views and inspire positive change.

We encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity which will resonate within your employee group into the future. Registration is available with tickets to the November 28 performance of Gathering Light. To register, click here.
