Vancouver 125 Artistic Director Named

With an eye to building on the spirit generated during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Vancouver's 125th anniversary celebrations will include expertise from key players behind the success of the 2010 Winter Games.

Robert Kerr, who led programming, production and operations for the Cultural Olympiad, has been hired as Producing Artistic Director for the 125th anniversary celebrations, which will include two major civic events during the anniversary year - a civic celebration on April 6, 2011 to mark Vancouver's actual incorporation day and a three-day summer celebration in Stanley Park in July.

Twentyten Group, a new Vancouver-based consultancy made up of key staff from the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC), has been awarded the contract to manage sponsorships and private sector contributions to the 125th anniversary celebrations.

The City of Vancouver officially incorporated on April 6, 1886 and will celebrate its 125th anniversary with a diverse program including a civic celebration on April 6 to mark the anniversary; a free, outdoor summer celebration from July 8-10, 2011 featuring music stages and a range of arts, sports and intercultural activities; and dozens of other City and community-produced anniversary events.

Full details on Vancouver's 125th anniversary celebrations will be announced in January 2011. For more information on planning for the 125th anniversary, visit the Vancouver 125 celebration website
