Creative Places + Spaces: Bursary Recipients
/The City of Vancouver Cultural Services has announced the
recipients of the Creative Places + Spaces Bursary competition. This
Bursary, created with the support of Vancouver City Savings Credit Union
is designed to help build the knowledge and capacity of Vancouver arts
and culture individuals for cultural space creation and operation. It
provides for ten registrations and cash stipends to attend Creative
Places + Spaces: The Collaborative City Conference in Toronto this
October.

The City of Vancouver invites non-profit organizations to respond to a
Request for Proposal (RFP) for generic office and assembly space in the new
Woodward's development at Hastings and Abbott Street. The RFP is open to any
Vancouver based non-profit organization with a social, cultural or artistic
mandate that wishes to lease space in the project. Note the space will be

/The media has asked for stats regarding the number of organizations affected by recent provincial funding cuts. They want to know how groups are affected and what is being lost as a result of lost Gaming revenues. This survey will help us give specifics to the media on the impact of the cuts to our sector.

Artists and their supporters will be out in force to rally against recent funding cuts on Wednesday, September 9.
The dance community will be gathering at the Scotia Bank Dance Centre at 11:30 am, and then walk to Robson Square where they will join other members of the arts community for the rally.

/Hilary Davis, who works for the Roundhouse Community Arts & Rec Centre and as a Program Assistant for the Arts & Culture office of the Vancouver Park Board is hoping to get some quick responses from the community regarding a new proposed space at the Trout Lake Community Centre. "Construction for the new centre will begin right after the Olympics next April and we are advocating for a new, albeit rather small rehearsal/workshop presentation space... Our next building committee meeting is on Aug.13th so we are hoping to get some feedback by then to support the new space.

/The Alliance was at City Hall on Tuesday to show our support for Vancouver 125, a celebration of the city’s 125th anniversary (which falls in 2011) that would have a strong arts component. It also gave us a unique opportunity to request Council’s support in lobbying the Province to reverse the cuts to the BC Arts Council. While there, we had the opportunity to follow the Council’s deliberations on what to do about the density bank.

/We have just returned from a frank and productive meeting with Minister Krueger at his Vancouver office. It was an excellent opportunity to communicate the concerns of our community to the new Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, and to offer to help him in trying to reverse the cuts to the BC Arts Council. He wanted everyone to know that both he and the Premier are both very committed to the arts, and that they will do their utmost to ensure that the community is not "hung out to dry" next year when the supplemental funding runs out.
