Our activities include our flagship annual literary Festival, one of the largest and most prestigious in North America. Tens of thousands of readers visit the cultural hub of Granville Island and venues around Vancouver to connect with local and international authors during this week-long event. And throughout the year, we offer free and paid special author events, youth education programming with Writers in the Classroom, and an annual Youth Writing Contest.

Job Description:
The night administrator assists the volunteer management and festival operations team to close out each event day during the Vancouver Writers Festival (20-26 October). They work closely with the volunteer manager and the operations manager to ensure that end of day procedures are followed, and they assist with some office tasks in preparation for the next day’s schedule.
This position is a contract position, offered at $23/hr for an estimated 40-45 hrs before and during the Festival (20-26 October 2025). The position is in-person, based at the Vancouver Writers Fest office on Granville Island. The hours of this position are 5 pm to 11 pm each day of the festival.
Responsibilities:
The night administrator’s responsibilities include:
Resolving any issues raised and reporting concerns to the appropriate staff member if required
Overseeing the activities of the evening’s volunteers
Monitoring volunteer management system for changes to schedule
Overseeing the departing and returning Box Office and concession volunteers and staff, including reconciling cash, preparing floats for the following morning, and charging all tech devices
Some basic food clean-up and storage
Securing money and tech equipment in the safe at the end of the shift, and noting the need for change when necessary
Following building security and lock-up procedures
Acting as initial point person in case of emergency
Other duties as required
Submitting a final written report summarizing activities and feedback
Qualifications:
Hospitality and/or administrative experience preferred.
Role involves a moderate amount of moving and stairclimbing.
First Aid required.
Conflict resolution and/or de-escalation training an asset.
Should be comfortable working evenings, able to commute from Granville Island past transit hours, and do some light/moderate lifting and carrying.
