Job Description:
The Vancouver Art Gallery believes creativity is fundamental to an open and engaged world. Bring your experience in AV to one of Canada’s leading arts institutions in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
Reporting to the AV Technician III, the AV Technician II supports events, meetings, performances and gallery installations by providing hands-on technical expertise across audio, video, lighting and integrated AV systems. This role is ideal for a skilled, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced cultural environment and brings both technical strength and a strong customer-service mindset.
Responsibilities:
Install, set up, operate, dismantle and transport audio-visual equipment for internal and public events, meetings, performances and exhibitions.
Operate and troubleshoot AV systems during live events to ensure seamless execution.
Provide technical support for audio, video, projection, lighting and hybrid live productions.
Assist with the installation, integration and configuration of AV systems in event and gallery spaces.
Prepare and manage media assets across digital and analog formats.
Install and de-install exhibition equipment according to technical designs established by AV leadership.
Assist in cataloguing and monitoring analogue and digital media in the reference library and permanent collections.
Perform preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and safe working procedures.
Identify, resolve or escalate technical and safety issues as required.
Maintain organized workspaces, storage areas, and accurate AV inventory records.
This role contributes to the overall success of the Museum Services team and supports the Gallery’s strategic priorities through reliable, safe and innovative AV execution.
Qualifications:
As AV Technician II, you hold post-secondary technical training in audio-visual systems (or equivalent experience) and bring a minimum of two years of professional AV experience in corporate, events, museum, gallery or arts-related environments.
In addition, you have:
Comprehensive knowledge of audio, video, and data signal flow and system integration.
Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex AV issues under pressure.
Experience with:
Audio: PA systems, digital and analog mixers, wireless microphones, front-of-house processing.
Video: Projectors, LCD/LED displays, playback systems, video switching and distribution, camera recording.
Lighting: DMX dimming and programming, cue creation, basic rigging.
Systems Integration: Cable termination, rack building, safe mounting and anchoring, projection screens, Unistrut, and cable management.
Computers & Networking: Mac and Windows OS, presentation software, signage hardware, basic IP networking concepts.
Hands-on experience setting up, operating, and maintaining AV equipment for live events and installations.
A solid understanding of safe power practices and event safety standards.
Proficiency with Mac and Windows systems and computer-based AV environments.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, customer-focused approach.
The ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, ladder and lift work.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
Experience in arts and cultural organizations and relevant AV certifications are considered assets.

Remuneration:
Salary: Pay Grade 18: Step 1: $27.38 per hour, plus a percentage in lieu of benefits.
