The centre houses a 257-seat, flexible black box theatre and a 1,500 square foot public art gallery. The Rehearsal Studio and several art studios provide an additional 5,000 square feet of space for Evergreen’s classes, workshops, and rentals while the glassed-in lobby offers a spectacular view of Lafarge Lake.

Job Description:
Evergreen Cultural Centre is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and engaging
Summer Art Camp Instructor to support our summer arts education
programming. The instructor will create a lively, inclusive, and inspiring camp
environment that encourages children to explore their creativity through hands-on
artmaking.
The instructor will lead a wide range of age-appropriate visual and performing
arts activities—including drawing, painting, sculpture, clay, collage, mixed media, creative movement, drama games, and basic music/rhythm activities—while
ensuring a safe, supportive, and welcoming space for all campers (ages 5–14).
During the first week of employment, the Art Camp Instructor will collaborate
closely with an educator and the Education team to complete required camp
training, including lesson planning, classroom, and behaviour management
strategies, supply preparation, accessibility considerations, and safety procedures.
Responsibilities:
Plan and prep age-appropriate lessons and project schedules; set up
materials, tools, and the art space for each camp day.
• Lead hands-on art projects (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, clay, collage,
mixed media) for ages 5–14, using clear demonstrations and supportive
feedback.
• Adapt instruction to different ages, learning styles, and abilities; provide
one-on-one guidance and accessible options to support full participation.
• Foster an inclusive, creative camp culture aligned with ECC values,
encouraging curiosity, collaboration, and confidence in each camper’s
work.
• Maintain safe supervision and positive behaviour management; teach safe
tool/material use, follow emergency procedures, and complete incident
reports as required.
• Communicate professionally with families and staff at drop-off/pick-up;
share daily highlights and support newsletters/activity summaries,
escalating concerns when needed.
• Keep the studio clean, organized, and welcoming throughout the day;
clean/store supplies, monitor inventory, and report damaged or low-stock
items.
Qualifications:
• Experience in Art: Proven experience with various art techniques, mediums,
and creative expression.
• Experience in Teaching/Working with Children: Previous experience
working with children or in an educational setting is preferred.
• Passion for Creativity: Strong enthusiasm for art and creativity, with the
ability to inspire and encourage campers of all ages.
• Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with
children, fellow staff, and parents.
• Team Player: Ability to work effectively within a team and maintain a
positive attitude.
• First Aid/CPR certification (required, or willingness to obtain before camp
begins).
• Must pass a criminal record/background check (or be willing to obtain one).

• Must be available for the full work term
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employmentBe a
Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee
protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the art of employment and be
legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or
territorial legislation and regulations
• A meaningful understanding and genuine commitment to diversity,
inclusion, anti-racism, and equity
Desired Qualifications:
• Working towards a Degree in Fine Arts, Education, or a related field.
• Experience in leading art classes or workshops for children.
• Familiarity with child development and how to engage children in creative
activities.
Working Conditions:
This is a seasonal, full-time position during the summer months (July 2 – August 28, 2026). Hours typically align with camp schedules, which may include mornings and afternoons. The position is based in an art camp environment, with work occurring outdoors and
in dedicated visual art and performing arts spaces. Applicant must be able to
attend staff training prior to the start of camp.
