Job Title:

Call for Latin American Spanish-Speaking Designers & Stage Manager

Organization:

Neworld Theatre

Deadline:

Jun. 2, 2026

Organization Description:

Neworld Theatre creates, produces, and tours new plays, performance events and digital works. Our activities occur primarily on the unceded, traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations but extend across Turtle Island.

We are committed to centering stories and perspectives that seek to dismantle systems of oppression. Vital to this is an interrogation of whose stories are being told and who does the telling. We embrace the conflict we believe is inherent in any authentic consideration of power, privilege and access. Our motto is ‘plays well with others’. Collaboration and working across perceptions of difference are central to our ethics and the way we work.

Over our 31-year history, we have produced, presented and toured multiple works annually at festivals and theatres in over 40 cities and 10 countries worldwide. Major awards include several Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards including the Sydney J Risk prize and Ray Michal prize as well as three Critics’ Choice Innovation Awards, a Canadian Association of Journalists Award, two Arts Club Silver Commissions, the Seattle Times Footlight Award, multiple Jessie Richardson Awards, the Rio-Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award, the Canada Council Staunch-Lynton Award, the Siminovich Prize, an Anthem Award, the PACT Green Award and a Canadian Journalism Award. www.neworldtheatre.com

Job Description:

Neworld Theatre is seeking Latin American, Spanish-speaking Lighting, Set, and Sound designers and one Stage Manager for our upcoming production of Moonweavings by Ana Lorena Perez. This new puppet show for young children brings the diversity of Latin American children’s music to the stage. The spoken words in the play are largely in English but the songs are in Spanish, so we are seeking Spanish-speaking artists.

Long after they should be asleep, three young cousins reunited on a family summer vacation transform their beach cottage bedroom into a theatrical haven. Their imaginative play takes them through enchanting stories and Latin American children’s music.

Moonweavings is a 35-minute puppet show that offers families with young children a vibrant cultural experience, seamlessly connecting rich contemporary Latin American children’s music, celebrated on stages across the region, with Latin American families and audiences hearing this music for the first time.

Moonweavings will premiere as a part of Yupi! Latin American Arts Family Festival at Presentation House Theatre with both public and school performances.
