Job Description:

The Opportunity As part of the Mountain Culture team, the Business Development Manager oversees the working relationships, potential business partnerships and execution of departmental objectives, primarily the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour and the online platform. Working closely with the World Tour Manager, Festival Manager and the Director of Mountain Culture, this position works to improve existing business streams and develops new business for Mountain Culture resulting in increased revenues. Additionally, this position nurtures the cultivation of new relationships required for meeting the financial objectives of World Tour and online programming worldwide, with the Tour being the main outreach and revenue generator of Mountain Culture. Along with the World Tour Manager, this position is a primary point of contact for new external stakeholders on the World Tour and communicates extensively with all parties to identify strategic opportunities and challenges with the online platform This position reports directly to the Director of Mountain Culture but will also have daily interaction with the World Tour Manager & Festival Manager.

Responsibilities:

Roles and Responsibilities Reporting to the Director, Mountain Culture, this position will also work closely with the Manager of Strategic Sponsorships, Event Specialists on the World Tour team. Below are some key accountabilities:

World Tour
- Identifies, researches and reports on new global markets and potential partners for consideration to the Director and World Tour Manager for inclusion in the World Tour.
- Develops and maintains professional, informed working relationships with key clients and funders to ensure long-term loyalty, opportunity and sustainability of the World Tour.
- Once approved, the BDM actively recruits approved new hosts in promising markets and initiates development of any corresponding creative and design needed to achieve this.
- Develops and oversees the World Tour host application process and onboarding documents, in collaboration with the World Tour Manager.
- Acts as main contact for new World Tour host onboarding and troubleshooting until relationship is established.
- Attends and evaluates World Tour screenings as assigned.
- Meets with prospective new World Tour hosts as required.

Online Platform
- Manages all aspects of the online film platform year-round. Works with the Festival Manager to execute online Festival films each fall.
- Supervises and manages Digital Platform Specialist (contract position)
- Works proactively with World Tour Manager and Festival Manager on business strategy including an annual online platform strategy.
- Engages extensively with external stakeholders and with staff of other departments for the management of the online film platform.
- Develops and builds new business relationships for the online film platform.
- Works as online film platform liaison with Banff Centre marketing team.
- Ensures that online film programs operate within Banff Centre policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Manages online film platform customer support as required.
- Oversees online platform needs for international World Tour hosts and develops a communication strategy to achieve this.
- Develops new revenue models and advertising opportunities for online film platform.
- Leads annual review of online film platform, including platform and vendor review, programming and customer feedback.
- Provides leadership into the determination of the Banff At School film programs as well as all online film programming.
- Develops and builds new business relationships for the Banff At School programs.

Projects
- Assists with ongoing program needs and special projects associated with all online film platform and World Tour initiatives of the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival (BCMFBF) which includes statistical analysis and reporting, required for Board of Governors and grant reporting.
- Oversees and develops other potential revenue generating activities for Mountain Culture, such as merchandise sales.

Financial and Administrative Duties
- Maintains accurate records management systems in alignment with the standards and procedures required by Mountain Culture and Banff Centre.
- Contributes to provincial, federal and private funding applications and final reports.
- Ensures measurement and tracking of project/event impact and provides analysis of this information in a timely manner, for both on-going event improvement, and for funder/client related reporting.
- Works with Manager of Strategic Sponsorships and Sponsorship & Communications Officer as the World Tour and online film platform liaison for sponsorship fulfillment.
- Prepares annual World Tour prospective hosts report and strategy.
- Prepares annual online film platform prospective partners report and strategy.
- Researches, develops and reports on new revenue streams.
- Accountable to meet established financial goals, timelines and departmental objectives.
- Prepares supporting documents and required financial budgets, reports, reconciliations and invoices for assigned projects and monitors expenses against budget/forecast.
- Manages assigned program budgets, resource allocation (people, materials, spaces, places, partners, technology) and deliverables.
- Manages monthly financial reporting for online film platform.
- Actively leads budget conversations regarding revenue goals for the World Tour and online film platform.
- Oversees invoicing and reporting for online film platform.

- Support team members participating in training session to educate on unconscious bias, cultural competency, and other diversity-related development processes.

- Ensure all team members represent Banff Centre to any stakeholders and constituents in an informed, helpful, and positive way, striving to increase the organization’s public value in each interaction.
- Recruit, hire, and mentor staff, assigning work, and measuring their performance in relation to the strategic standards of excellence and goals. Works closely with the Human Resources Team to ensure policies, procedures, contractual, legislative and work culture expectations are met.

Qualifications:

Qualifications and Educational Requirements - 5+ years of proven management experience, preferably within an event or festival environment. - University degree in arts discipline or business, or related area of study. - Proven financial and analytical skills. - Solid understanding of events, marketing, promotion and production. - Highly developed project management skills. - Advanced business relationship development and prospecting skills are required, with the ability to seek collaborative solutions and persuade others. - An ability to formulate long and short-range goals, while anticipating and responding to flexible program needs. - An understanding and appreciation of Mountain Culture, the outdoor film industry and its place within the global mountain environment is an asset - Advanced communications and writing skills are required. - Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to develop relationships and work effectively at all levels. - Experience leading and working with diverse teams. - Exceptional collaboration, leadership and business consulting skills. - Business, financial management, financial reporting and budget experience. - Willingness to work flexible, irregular hours when required. - Proficiency in other languages is an asset. Employment Terms and Benefits - In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried, full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. - The annual salary range for this position is between $68,714 and $102,040 based on experience. - The successful candidate will enjoy twenty paid vacation days and four personal days annually, extended medical and dental benefits, and participation in an employer-matched pension plan. - Some travel will be required in this position.
