Citywide Public Art Banners 2026

ORGANIZATION: City of Surrey
DEADLINE: January 26, 2026
WEBSITE: https://www.surrey.ca/arts-culture/public-art/artist-calls-project-updates

CALL FOR ARTISTS:
Every year, the City of Surrey’s Public Art Program commissions artwork to be displayed on approximately 100 street poles near significant cultural destinations throughout the city. These artist-designed banners beautify and brighten streetscapes and contribute to placemaking.

The 2026 citywide banner series seeks design proposals from artists that offer unique perspectives of place. The guiding principles for the 2026 banners are to invite colour, vibrancy, and cultivate a sense of connection to community. Artists are encouraged to submit concepts that reflect these values and respond creatively to Surrey’s diverse urban landscape.

HOW TO APPLY:
Artists are invited to submit a concept proposal by email to Public Art Staff at publicart@surrey.ca, using the subject line: 2026 Public Art Banners – (Your Name). Submissions must include contact details; a design concept (concept designs only, not final artwork, maximum file size 10 MB); a CV outlining past exhibitions, commissions, education, and/or relevant experience (one per member if applying as a team); a portfolio of up to 10 images of past work; and a bio and artist statement (maximum 300 words). All materials must be compiled into a single PDF document.

FEES/COMPENSATION:
The selected artwork will receive an award of $3,000. Fabrication and installation costs are covered by the City. There are no fees to apply or exhibit.
