CALL FOR ARTISTS:
The City of Burnaby is seeking artists to activate Deer Lake Park during the annual Burnaby Blooms event taking place on May 3, 2026, at Deer Lake Park.
Eco-art submissions should use environmentally friendly materials and must not harm or impact the natural ecological environment in which they will be installed. Submissions should be sensitive to the habitat and cultural significance of the area. A detailed artist information package with additional details is available on the website.
HOW TO APPLY:
Complete the online application form available on the website, providing details about the proposed installation. The intention is to help viewers better understand the artist’s work and ensure the proposal supports the festival’s theme of environmental sustainability and sustainable art practices. Applicants must also attach a bio, CV, and artist statement, along with images and a breakdown of expenses.
FEES/COMPENSATION:
Artists will be compensated between $1,500 and $5,000, depending on the scope, nature, and complexity of the project, the number of activations associated with the installation (e.g., workshop and/or artist talk or demonstration), length of installation, and artist experience. Artists are expected to be in attendance to speak to their work with the public for a minimum of two hours on May 3. The artist fee is inclusive of transportation or mileage, assistance with setup and removal of artwork, and insurance. There are no fees to apply.
