Call for Artists Description:

The City of Surrey invites expressions of interest for artwork designs to wrap utility boxes along the new Surrey-Langley SkyTrain corridor (Fraser Highway from Whalley Boulevard to 196 Street).

Three artists will be commissioned to design a total of 27 utility boxes located in Whalley, Fleetwood, and Clayton. Each artist will be assigned one neighbourhood and will create unique artwork inspired by that community.

The selected designs will be digitally printed and installed, contributing to the identity of each neighbourhood and enhancing the streetscape through placemaking.

Your application should contain the following information:
• Contact Details: Name, address, email and phone number
• Letter of Intent: (300-word max.) Outline your vision and/or artistic approach to this project
• Artist CV: (2 pages max.) History of past commissions, exhibitions, education and/or relevant experience o If applying as a team, please include one for each team member.
• Bio & Artist Statement: (300-word max.) A brief introduction to who you are and what your practice is about
• Portfolio: Up to 10 images of past work o Please include titles, date, description and materials.
• Package: (10mb max.) Combine all items into a single PDF document

Fees/Compensation:

The artist fees for each neighbourhood are as follows:
• Whalley - $6,000
• Fleetwood - $16,500
• Clayton - $7,500

Each short-listed artist or team will be given an honorarium of $500 to further develop their concept proposal.
