CALL FOR ARTISTS:
Raven Theatre is looking to audition performers for Corey Payette’s new musical, On Native Land, which will premiere at the York Theatre in April 2026.

On Native Land is a new musical that intertwines the lives of three seemingly disparate characters—a lawyer, a Chief, and a rising singer-songwriter—whose paths converge in a powerful tale of identity, land, and love. A dive into the heart of contemporary Indigenous narratives, On Native Land is a sweeping love story with a focus on urban Indigenous communities, offering solace and solidarity. Directed by Corey Payette.

The commitment is as follows:
Rehearsals/Tech/Previews: March 2–April 9, 2026
Show Run: April 10–19, 2026
Potential Week Hold Over: April 20–26, 2026

AUDITION INFORMATION
Auditions will take place on Thursday, August 14th.

CASTING BREAKDOWN

  • LAND – Narrator, storyteller, song carrier, hand drummer, and truth teller

  • BLOOD – Mid 20s–30s, male, white-passing mixed Indigenous heritage, two-spirit, pop star singer-songwriter

  • RIELLE – 30s, female, mixed Indigenous heritage, lawyer

  • CHIEF – 40s–60s, any gender, Indigenous, represented by Rielle

  • JAKOB – 20s, male, gay, love interest to Blood

  • LIZ – 30s–50s, female, Blood’s manager (also plays CLAIRE – lawyer, Crown rep, sister of Jakob)

  • ELLIOT – 30s, male, lawyer working with Rielle

  • GRACIE – 30s, female, Indigenous, daughter of Chief

  • KYLE – 20s–30s, male, Blood’s designer (also plays JUDGE, REPORTER, and INTERVIEWER)

  • BETHANY – 20s–30s, female, Blood’s hair and makeup artist (also plays REPORTER and INTERVIEWER)

ETHNOCULTURAL MANDATE OR CASTING STATEMENT
We are actively seeking submissions from artists of all backgrounds, abilities, and ethnicities as we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within this selection process. We especially encourage performers of these communities to submit: Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour, Gender Diverse and Gender Non-Conforming, LGBTQIA2S+, d/Deaf, Disabled/People with Disabilities, and/or Neurodiverse.

Through the Google Form here, please provide your personal information, the role(s) you would like to be considered for, and include your headshot and resume.

If you are unable to submit via the form and/or have other accessibility needs, please email ryan@raventheatre.ca with subject line “On Native Land Submission Support.”

If you are invited to audition, you will be asked to prepare a short song of your choice, as well as a selected song and scene for the character you’re asked to audition for.

As provided for in 8:06 (V) of the Canadian Theatre Agreement, self-tapes are accepted to accommodate artists who cannot attend in person if needed.
