CALL FOR ARTISTS:
Théâtre la Seizième, the leading professional francophone theatre company in British Columbia, in partnership with the Centre de la Francophonie at UBC, is launching a call for projects for francophone or francophile creators or artistic duos as part of its Artistic Incubator for Creative Practice. Proposals for texts or creations in the field of theatre for young audiences (elementary school level) are particularly encouraged.
These projects may take the form of text ideas or creation-based proposals grounded in research of form or content, offering reflections on topics that may impact students from Grades 1 to 6.
Once the artist or duo is selected, la Seizième and its Artistic Director will support the development of the project. Several development phases will take place, including working sessions with the Centre de la Francophonie and public residencies.
Eligibility Criteria
Be a professional artist* or a duo of professional artists who are francophone and/or francophile
Have a contemporary creative practice
Reside in Canada and have the legal right to work in Canada
HOW TO APPLY:
Submit your application (written, audio, or video) no later than Friday, May 15, 2026, to: directionartistique@seizieme.ca
Your application must include:
A presentation of your artistic practice and past work
A statement of intent outlining your artistic impulses and potential project ideas (in any format)
Your CV or the history of your company/collective
Additional information may be requested if needed
Only selected applicants will be contacted for an initial discussion phase. Final selection will take place in mid-June. Please note that resources are limited and only one project will be supported through this call.
FEES/COMPENSATION:
Théâtre la Seizième will provide a creation or writing fee for the development of the work, a fee for dramaturgical support, and coverage of costs associated with development phases, as well as potential production of the work in 2027/28.
