CALL FOR ARTISTS:
Applications are now open for the Mackie Lake House 2026 Artist in Residence Program. The application deadline is May 31, 2026. Submissions are invited from emerging, mid-career, and established artists across all visual art disciplines, including experimental and interdisciplinary practices as well as contemporary approaches in painting, illustration, sculpture, photography, video, and related media. Artists who identify as BIPOC and LGBTQIIA+ are encouraged to apply.
The four-week residency runs from September 14 to October 8, 2026, and includes accommodation at Mackie Lake House. The artist will have access to the heritage home and its five acres of grounds. The site is an active heritage property with ongoing public and private events, primarily on weekends. The resident will receive a designated working space, orientation to the site’s history and archival materials, and access to available equipment.
The artist is expected to liaise with staff, the curator/collections manager, and community members, and to participate in at least one public program such as a talk, workshop, or demonstration. A solo exhibition at Vernon Public Art Gallery will follow from October to December 2026, with an opening on October 8. The artist is responsible for artwork transport after the exhibition.

FEES/COMPENSATION:
The selected artist will receive $2,350 for the exhibition, plus four weeks of accommodation at Mackie Lake House.
