CALL FOR ARTISTS:
North Van Arts is currently accepting submissions for its Art in the Community Program for 2027. Art in the Community consists of three exhibition venues:
District Library Gallery / Located at the Lynn Valley Main Library
District Foyer Gallery / Located at North Vancouver District Hall
City Atrium Gallery / Located at North Vancouver City Hall NEW
The Art in the Community Program, run by North Van Arts, aims to celebrate and enable emerging and professional artists through solo exhibition opportunities in public spaces.
North Van Arts invites visual artists working in 2D mediums or small 3D mediums, including painting, photography, ceramics and mixed media, to apply. Successful candidates will be offered an eight-to-twelve-week solo or paired exhibition time slot within the 2027 calendar year.
Artists are required to submit a minimum of 10 artworks to exhibit. The exact number of artworks exhibited will depend on artwork sizing.
Safer Spaces
North Van Arts aims to be a safer space for all who engage with them. They are working towards providing opportunities and places of connection for all community members. They especially encourage applications from members of groups who are underrepresented in their community, including, but not limited to:
Indigenous Peoples (First Nation, Métis, and Inuit)
People of colour
2SLGBTQIA+ community
People living with one or more visible and/or invisible disabilities
People who experience discrimination due to race, gender, age, ancestry, religion, or place of origin
Submission Eligibility Guidelines:
Both emerging and professional artists are encouraged to submit artwork for Art in the Community. Artwork submitted may be in any medium. Artists must have at least 8 artworks available for exhibition at the time of application.
For 2D works, all artworks must be fixed with two eyehooks, D-rings, eyelets or their equivalent on the back of the frame or canvas. The 2D pieces are hung with a track system that uses construction string threaded through the eyelet hole. Eyelets need to be installed approximately ¼ inch from the top of the work piece.
Artists must have a minimum of 10 artworks available for exhibition. 2D artwork must be a minimum of 24" x 36" and a maximum of 48" x 72". AI images will not be accepted.
Artists must reside in Metro Vancouver to apply. North Van Arts aims to showcase a selection of both North Shore and Metro Vancouver artists across its spaces.
Review Process
All artworks will be subject to a juried selection process by North Van Arts staff. Submissions will be assessed on how the artwork aligns with the open call theme.
Artists will be notified of application results no later than October 31, 2026. Due to the high volume of submissions, North Van Arts is unable to give individual feedback to artists whose artwork has not been selected.
Submission Proposal
Please submit a proposal document which includes:
A description of the theme/concept of the exhibition (up to 600 words)
An up-to-date artist’s statement and biography (no more than 400 words each)
An inventory list of artworks including their title, date, medium, size (in inches), and price. If the work is not for sale, please note that.
Up to 16 high-resolution images of artworks that you would like to propose for an exhibition
Proposed artwork must be currently available for the exhibition
If your work is framed, please include an image of the frame
Please submit this information as a single Word document or PDF file. Title the file as: Firstname_Lastname_ExhibitionTitle

Applicants must submit a single Word document or PDF containing the exhibition proposal, artist’s statement and biography, artwork inventory, and up to 16 high-resolution artwork images. The file should be titled Firstname_Lastname_ExhibitionTitle.

FEES/COMPENSATION:
There is no fee to apply. North Van Arts does not pay artist fees for exhibiting artwork. North Van Arts receives an administrative fee of 35% of the total sale price for each artwork sold during the exhibition period.
