The Nikkei Place Foundation has announced a donation of $1 million from West Vancouver philanthropist Yoshiko Karasawa. The donation supports the redevelopment of the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, which opened in Burnaby in 2002. The expanded museum will reopen in 2018 to coincide with the 140th anniversary of Japanese presence in Canada.

Yoshiko Karasawa is an arts volunteer and philanthropist who sits on the board of the Vancouver Opera. She was also a founding director and supporter of Nikkei Place. The Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre is a leading Japanese Canadian organization dedicated to the needs of Japanese Canadians and new immigrants.
