With less than 5 weeks until the third annual Culture Days event, now is a great time to start planning your weekend.

If you are like many who have registered their Culture Days activities and are now planning your promotional strategies, consider working collaboratively with others in your immediate vicinity (block, neighbourhood, building, etc.) and create a Culture Days hub.

The City of Vancouver is seeking Proposals from Proponents interested in leasing City-owned industrial spaces that Proponents would convert and operate as multiple, affordable, accessible artist studios and production spaces.

The City's preference is to support Proposals led by Vancouver-based non-profit arts and cultural organizations. For-profit organizations, artist collectives, or individuals interested in submitting a proposal are strongly encouraged to partner with a Vancouver-based arts and cultural non-profit organization.

The University of British Columbia’s new international Centre for Cultural Planning and Development is pleased to announce the launch of the UBC Certificate in Cultural Planning – a 100% online learning program authored and taught by senior practitioners from around the globe. Courses are 8-10 weeks in length and can be taken individually for professional development purposes. Beginning in 2013, 6 courses can also  be combined to earn the Certificate.

The Vancouver Sun is introducing a new series of op-eds with cultural themes starting in September, and is issuing an invitation for submissions from the community.

This comes as part of a larger restructuring of the Arts and Life sections in the Vancouver Sun, which will bring some valuable new perspectives to our pages.

Understanding Aboriginal Arts in Canada Today

Based on interviews and other research information (both oral and written), this report has the goal of expanding understanding of Aboriginal art in “the mainstream art world”.

Britannia Community Services Centre is interested in collaborating with 2-5 registered non-profit Vancouver based cultural or recreation organizations who may be interested in a short term sub-lease of space in the East Vancouver Commercial Drive area. The Lease period will begin October 2012 and run for approximately 18 - 24 months. The space consists of an approximately 3,000 square foot banquet and dance hall with a commercial kitchen and is suitable for program, performance or rehearsal space.

Why will some people engage with art in one setting, but not another? For example, why will someone watch great drama on television at home, but never darken the door of a theater? Why will someone listen to classical music in a place of worship, but not a concert hall?

Participation in Culture Days provides an excellent opportunity to attract and develop new sponsors and supporters while strengthening relationships with existing ones. This first edition of the Culture Days sponsorship toolkit is geared to help artists and cultural organizations hosting activities during the Culture Days weekend develop their strategy to solicit support.

The Canada Council for the Arts is extending the deadline for registration to the cultural competitions at the Jeux de la Francophonie 2013. You could be selected to be part of the team that will represent Canada at the 2013 games in Nice, France.

Eligible candidates: Canadian artists aged 18-35
