Finalists Announced for Richmond Arts Awards

Eighteen finalists are vying in six categories for recognition in the fifth annual Richmond Arts Awards presented by Canadian Western Bank.

The annual awards, established to recognize the achievements and contributions to the arts by Richmond residents, artists, educators, organizers and business leaders, were developed in 2009 by the City of Richmond in partnership with the Richmond Arts Coalition and are presented with the support of Richmond News and Tempest Development Group.

City of Vancouver Invites Submissions for 2013 Book Award

Authors and publishers of books that contribute to the appreciation and understanding of Vancouver’s history, unique character or the achievements of its residents are invited to submit entries for the 25th annual City of Vancouver Book Award.

The winning book can be of any genre and will demonstrate excellence in content, illustration, design, and/or format. To be eligible, books must be published in 2012 or 2013 and meet the application criteria.

All entries must include: four copies of the book, a $20 submission fee, and a completed entry form.

Vancouver Violinist Receives 2013 GG Performing Arts Award

Vancouver violinist and teacher Andrew Dawes is being honoured for his accomplishments to the field of classical music in Canada with a Governor General's Award.

Dawes is one of six recipients of awards recognizing artists for an outstanding body of work and enduring contribution to the performing arts, announced this morning (April 10).

BC Government Increases Support for Arts Scholarships

The BC government announced yesterday (April 9) increased support for the BC Arts Council Scholarship program, providing more opportunities for young British Columbians to study the arts. 

Program funding will increase from $150,000 to $750,000 this year. As a result, the number of scholarships granted to British Columbians studying the arts could more than triple, from about 50 to as high as 175. The new funding increases the maximum value of the scholarships from $4,000 to $6,000.
