JOB DESCRIPTION:
Ballet BC is seeking an experienced, progressive, and collaborative dance professional to assume the role of Manager of Education and Engagement. Reporting to both the Artistic Director and the Managing Director, the Manager is responsible for teaching movement workshops and developing, coordinating, and delivering all company outreach and education programs in alignment with Ballet BC’s artistic vision and objectives. The role requires maintaining strong partnerships with artistic and administrative teams, building relationships with community partners, and serving as an ambassador for the company’s mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Create a season plan for outreach and education activities aligned with company goals.
• Design and implement new programs in collaboration with the Artistic Director.
• Facilitate outreach classes in the community and in Ballet BC studios for public and private school programs.
• Manage Student and Community Dress Rehearsals for performances at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
• Develop programs engaging seniors and promoting dance as a tool for wellness.
• Hire and train Ballet BC community teachers as needed.
• Prepare and manage annual outreach and education budgets.
• Collaborate with Development staff on fundraising initiatives.
• Track attendance, milestones, and reporting for Development and Artistic teams.
• Submit and review outreach-related expenses.
• Identify opportunities for dancers and emerging artists to participate in outreach.
• Build and maintain relationships with schools to book and coordinate Ballet BC Annex performances.
• Coordinate Ballet BC Annex tours in collaboration with the Associate Artistic Producer and Touring Stage Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong background in dance, including teaching experience.
• Proven ability to develop and manage outreach and engagement strategies.
• Experience teaching dance and movement to participants of varied ages and skill levels.
• Skilled in designing and evaluating educational programs for youth and adults.
• Confident public speaker with experience leading workshops and presentations.
• Understanding of cross-cultural dynamics and ability to foster effective partnerships.
• Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven experience implementing strategic initiatives.
• Positive, proactive attitude with strong work ethic.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in arts, education, or related field.
• Proficiency with computer applications and budget management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages an asset.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly between Ballet BC and community sites.
