Founded in 1969, the Vancouver Academy of Music (VAM) is a non-profit institution that has been spreading a love of learning and musical excellence for generations of aspiring musicians. JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Development plays a crucial role in advancing VAM’s mission by strategically planning and executing fundraising initiatives to drive the institution’s financial sustainability. The incumbent collaborates closely with the administrative leadership team to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with VAM’s goals and objectives. This position requires a proven track record in donor cultivation, gift solicitation, grant writing, and stewardship, as well as an understanding of the arts sector and the philanthropic landscape.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure financial support from individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government
Cultivate and steward relationships with existing and prospective donors, ensuring personalized engagement and tailored solicitation strategies
Supervise the Development & Community Impact Coordinator
Identify, research, and prioritize funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and collaborative partnerships
Prepare compelling grant proposals, funding appeals, and donor recognition materials that effectively communicate VAM’s mission and impact
Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to create impactful fundraising campaigns, events, and initiatives to increase donor engagement and retention
Collaborate with administrative leadership to identify funding needs and develop compelling cases for support
Oversee the maintenance of VAM’s donor management system to track donor interactions, gifts, and acknowledgments
Devise and implement a Government Relations strategy
Serve as a passionate advocate and spokesperson for VAM, promoting its mission and impact within the community and beyond
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in a development role, including demonstrated growth into leadership or supervisory positions
Proven track record of successfully securing gifts, grants, and sponsorships
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
Exceptional writing skills, including grant writing, donor appeals, and reports
Knowledge of the arts sector and a passion for music education and performance
Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term fundraising plans
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Collaborative team player with a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence

REMUNERATION:
