JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Marketing and Communications Manager implements marketing and communications plans for the organization with a focus on promoting the Vancouver Queer Film Festival (VQFF) and Out In Schools (OIS).
Reporting
Reports to the Development and Communications Director
Supervises Marketing Coordinator (Seasonal)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing & Communications (70%)
• Manage and implement marketing communications plans, reports, and budgets
• Ensure the tone, voice, and aesthetic of all public-facing Out On Screen materials are on brand
• Write and design print and digital assets, including brochures, flyers, business cards, annual reports, partnership reports, impact reports, etc.
• Collaborate with VQFF and OIS staff on the creation of program-specific branding materials, including newsletters, merchandise, slideshow templates, etc.
• Support media relations efforts, including writing press releases and coordinating the media team
• Maintain, update, and optimize the Out On Screen website experience and content
• Maintain a positive brand reputation and manage public inquiries via social media channels, website, and email
• Lead the strategy and production of key promotional assets for VQFF, including the Festival Guide, Festival Creative, and website
• Engage past and new audience members for VQFF and OIS, with a focus on growing our audience
• Lead the creation of effective digital content, including videos, newsletters, website content, social media, press releases, advertisements
• Plan and activate outreach activities to engage participants in VQFF programming
• Write and proofread marketing copy for films, events, and advertisements
• Manage and grow advertising sales with external partners
Management (20%)
• Collaborate with the Development and Communications Director, Programming, and other departments to plan and manage marketing activities
• Measure and monitor the success of marketing and communications initiatives using ticket sales data, campaign performance metrics, and analytics
• Support and supervise the seasonal Marketing Coordinator and marketing volunteers
• Manage marketing and communications projects such as advertising and media campaigns, print production, brand assets, and advertising sales
• Manage and collaborate with key external contacts, including designers, web developers, photographers, publicists, and media teams
• Ensure all marketing communications materials follow accessibility best practices and are developed using an anti-oppression framework
Development (10%)
• Build and maintain relationships with new and existing community partners
• Create the annual partnerships report
• Prepare, present, and fulfill sponsorship benefits
• Maintain and expand media relationships, including in-kind media sponsors
• Prepare donor- and sponsor-related communications, including email fundraising campaigns
• Support donor engagement and fundraising campaigns via digital channels
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Strong English-language written and verbal communication skills (additional languages considered an asset)
• Proficiency with marketing and communications tools, including WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Lightroom, and Illustrator), Meta Ads, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Google Ads, Buffer, Mailchimp, and Vimeo
• Proficiency with project management tools, including or similar to ClickUp, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office
• Graphic design and content creation skills
• Knowledge of industry best practices, trends, and user expectations
• Project management skills to meet hard deadlines
• Ability to apply anti-racist, anti-oppressive principles in marketing and communications
• Media analysis skills are an asset, particularly around histories and representations of gender, race, and sexuality
Training and Experience
• 2+ years of marketing and communications experience in a similar role, preferably in the arts sector or a nonprofit setting
• Experience assessing and reporting on marketing communications metrics
• Copywriting experience, ideally in an arts or nonprofit setting
• Management and supervisory experience is an asset
• Experience with accessibility practices in marketing and communications
• Experience reviewing data and reports from websites and social media channels, and making recommendations to optimize content

We expect this hiring process to follow these guidelines:

° Interviews are usually 60 minutes in length and will be held roughly between March 9 and 12
° Applicant updates will be provided approximately one week after interviews
• A second round of interviews will be held online if required for additional candidates or follow-up interviews
• Hiring decisions are made roughly one week after all interviews are complete
• An ideal start date is April 14, pending the availability of the candidate

REMUNERATION:
This position will start at an annual salary of $61,144. This compensation is not negotiable as it reflects the current budget.
