Performing Arts BC is dedicated to supporting, celebrating, and advancing the performing arts across British Columbia. Established in 1964, Performing Arts BC (PABC) is a not-for-profit charity and an umbrella organization for 34 regional performing arts festivals across the province. Annually, over 26,000 young artists (ages 5-22) participate throughout BC to gain educational and performing experience. The Provincial Festival, or "The Provincials," is our primary event, where top performers in Music, Dance and Speech Arts from each BC Festival compete and attend adjudicated sessions, master classes, and workshops with North America’s finest adjudicators. PABC also recommends outstanding competitors to the Canada West Performing Arts Festival.

Job Description:

The ED is the administrative center for PABC. **ED will work out of their home and can live anywhere in BC. ** Reporting to the President, the ED will carry out PABC’s mission to support local festivals around the province through organizing and operating the annual Performing Arts Festival and Canada West Festival (every 3 years). This position is a permanent part-time position. Training will commence at the 2026 BC Provincial Festival in Prince George. The successful applicant will be available for the first full week of June 2026 to work with the current PABC Executive Director for this year’s Festival. All expenses will be paid to attend the 2026 Provincial Festival The ED position will commence fully in November 2026 in preparation for the 2027 Festival season. Regular meetings as well as maintaining communication with member festivals carries on throughout the year. Work intensifies in late March, April, May and June with the expectation that the successful candidate will be available to provide logistics and administration for the duration of the 2027 Festival. There will be a probationary period for 9 months after which a yearly contract may be negotiated A COLA clause of 2% to be implemented yearly after the first year of employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond in a timely manner to phone and email inquiries from member festivals, the general public and donors

  • Maintain records and resources to support member festivals

  • Manage festival finances (bookkeeping), in regard to income and expenses

  • Facilitate board, committee and AGM sessions as well as hosting Zoom meetings

  • Work with the designated accountant to complete yearly financial statements for the AGM

  • Logistics and administration (in collaboration with the host committee) for the yearly festival including hiring adjudicators, accommodations and travel

  • Manage the PABC website

  • Logistics and administration for the Canada West festival to be held in BC every 3 years

  • Prepare and submit grant applications

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with sponsors, donors, community partners, and government agencies

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations

  • Act as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing its interests to the public and media

  • Run an office from home with PABC compensating specific expenses

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR related experience in arts administration or nonprofit management

  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and financial management

  • Computer literacy in all components of Microsoft Office

  • Good communication skills

  • Background or interest in the Performing Arts
