Job Description:

Duration: June 1 to August 29, 2026 (11 weeks)

WVCAC is seeking an ambitious Marketing Communications and Events Assistant, eager to provide marketing and administrative support to our Marketing and Communications team. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, eager to grow professionally, experiment and take initiative. To succeed in this role, it is necessary to be familiar with market dynamics and online marketing best practices. A firm grip on oral and written English is a prerequisite for the job. Experience with marketing software like HubSpot is also a big plus.

This person has strong writing, editing, and research skills and a solid understanding of marketing communication practices, digital marketing strategies, and analytics. Candidates with prior experience in a Marketing and Communications role will be given preference. The position is responsible for monitoring WVCAC’s social media accounts and providing weekly analysis, creating and scheduling posts, responding to comments, and ensuring brand loyalty by maintaining friendly, professional relations with our customer base. You will support the communications manager by conducting keyword research, identifying current industry trends, and providing valuable insights that will help us fine-tune our marketing and communications campaigns.

Responsibilities:

Marketing and Communications:
• Assist the Communication Manager in the execution of marketing strategies that will reliably increase brand awareness and boost engagement and conversion rates
• Write articles, website copy, and social media posts under the supervision of our manager
• Respond to comments on our social media and blog posts, monitor user engagement, and foster a positive relationship between our brand and our target audience
• Support our graphic design team by editing photos and assisting with the creation of marketing collateral
• Document the progress of our marketing campaign, make notes, and submit bi-weekly reports on significant developments
• Prepare social media and online presence analytics
• Assist the Communications Manager with organizing digital events, webinars, and other promotional activities
• Create, disseminate and analyze audience surveys after the events

Events:
• Assist with the delivery of the summer Jazz Waves series, including online & in-person ticket sales; physical set-up of chairs for audience and performance areas, as well as outdoor signage; front of house; and revenue reports
• Assist with the coordination and delivery of community events such as First Thursdays Art Walk 2026 and Singing by the Sea.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field
• Excellent written, proofreading, and editing skills
• 2+ years of experience in Marketing Communications or a similar role
• Strong grasp of social media analytics and media monitoring
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
• Knowledge of photo editing software (Photoshop, Canva, or similar)
• Basic understanding of CMS; preferably WordPress
• Experience with email marketing tools is a plus
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to handle multiple projects are a must.

Eligibility:
This position is subject to funding through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be considered for this position, applicant must be between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment; be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and have a valid SIN at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
