Organization Description:

The Gulf of Georgia Cannery, built in 1894 in the historic village of Steveston, is a living
monument to the people involved in BC’s fishing industry. The National Historic Site is operated by the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, a non-profit society. Collaborating with Parks Canada, the Society preserves Canada’s West Coast fishing history and presents it in an engaging and relevant way.

Job Description:

We are seeking an outgoing and independent individual to support our Marketing and Communications Coordinator for community outreach, public messaging, promotion and
spreading awareness of the Cannery. Our team and working environment exemplify inclusivity and diversity. We pride ourselves in demonstrating open minds, open hearts and welcoming all who participate in our endeavours.

Responsibilities:

The Marketing Coordinator will report to the Marketing and Communications coordinator and
collaborate will other departments. This role will play a significant part in raising awareness
of the Cannery’s year-round activities and communicating the Cannery’s mission to the wider
community.

Specific tasks and duties assigned to the Marketing Coordinator include:
 Facilitate on- and off-site outreach promoting the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society’s
programs, events, exhibits, and mission.
 Assist in providing information to visitors, on various platforms, about the Cannery,
surrounding village, and other nearby heritage attractions.
 Participate in the development of content for promotional activities, events, and
programs.
 Assist in social media, website, advertising vendors, travel media and Society
membership updates and messaging.
 Provide administrative support for financial tracking, data analysis, market research, and
membership administration.
 Interact with a wide range of diverse audiences to communicate the relevance of the
Cannery and Cannery programming.
 Participate in staff, Parks Canada and vendor meetings and group training opportunities
when offered.
 Collaborate with other staff and Parks Canada to deliver marketing and communication
initiatives.
 Other duties as required and directed by the Marketing and Communication
Coordinator.

Skills and Experience:
 Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with audiences.
 Articulate, creative, and confident in various forms of communication.
 You have experience marketing within a not-for-profit, educational setting or similar
enterprise.
 Fluency in English is required, fluency in French or other languages is a strong asset.
 Experience in delivering exceptional customer service in a museum or heritage setting is
an asset.
 Valid B.C. driver’s license or other reliable transportation required. Outreach work may
include offsite opportunities around the Lower Mainland.

Remuneration:

$19.50 per hour @ 7 hours per day for 5 days a week plus 6% in lieu of vacation and benefits.

Comprehensive training will be provided by the employer along with 1:1 mentorship provided by the Marketing and Communications Coordinator
