In addition to representing workers, the local operates a dispatch service that refers members to employers based on skillset and seniority.

Job Description:

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Dispatch Lead, Dispatchers refer casual workers to various employers on a gig-to-gig basis. Dispatchers use the Local’s dispatch database to match workers to gigs based on skillset and seniority, as well as maintain and update this database.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CHALLENGES:

Dispatch is a highly dynamic work environment with tight time constraints. Organizational ability is important as the Dispatcher must handle many tasks simultaneously while balancing priorities. Dispatchers must remain cool, organized, and effective in what can sometimes be a high-pressure work environment. Occasionally, they must manage conflict and dissatisfied workers and employers while upholding the Local’s policies and procedures.

OPERATING HOURS:

  • Standard Hours: Open 7 days per week, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Dispatchers start at 7:30 AM and may occasionally be required to work past 8:00 PM)

  • Holidays: Open on many Statutory holidays, usually with reduced staffing and/or reduced hours.

SHIFT STRUCTURE & AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Full-time Dispatchers work five 8-hour shifts per week and may be scheduled anytime during operating hours, or earlier if acting as an “opener”. Dispatchers who are “openers” begin ahead of opening hours, at 7:30 AM. Weekend work will likely be required, as well as occasional overtime.

To ensure fair scheduling and consistent coverage for our team, operational needs dictate our shift rotations. While you may be initially assigned to a specific schedule, consistent availability across all operational hours is a core requirement of the role as business needs evolve. Prior to hire, applicants must disclose any recurring commitments that conflict with our operating hours, as schedule arrangements cannot be modified after onboarding.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Legal entitlement to work in Canada

  • Must reside in BC

  • Professional comportment with excellent client service skills and telecommunication presence

  • Strong & independent organizational skills

  • Computer proficiency

  • This is a remote job and therefore requires a current computer or laptop that runs efficiently – either a PC that can run Windows 10 or 11, or a Mac with OS 15 Sequioa. A strong and reliable internet connection is also required. A second monitor is recommended, but not mandatory.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:

  • Ability, training, or experience relevant to dispatching and detailed administrative tasks

  • Familiarity with the live events industry; its departments, job titles, practices, and jargon

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)

Remuneration:

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS: IATSE Local 118 is a living wage employer. - $27.85 per hour, plus extended health benefits and RRSP. - $28.83 after 6 months. - $33.30 after 12 months - 15 vacation days (6%) per year (3 weeks)
