Job Description:
The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts is seeking a dedicated and experienced Ballet Accompanist to join our Long-Term Dance Program. In this role, you will provide live piano accompaniment for ballet classes with young dancers of all ages supporting instructors in delivering engaging, musical, and developmentally appropriate classes
The position starts on September 14th
Mondays 3:45-9:15pm & Wednesdays 4:20-7:30pm
Must be 19yrs or older
Responsibilities:
• Provide live piano accompaniment for ballet classes for both children and teens
• Select and adapt appropriate musical repertoire to support ballet exercises, combinations, centre work, and choreography.
• Work collaboratively with the ballet instructor to understand class structure, exercises, musical requirements, and pacing.
• Respond attentively to the instructor and students, adjusting tempo, phrasing, dynamics, and musical style as needed throughout the class.
• Create a positive, focused, and encouraging atmosphere through sensitive and supportive musical accompaniment.
• Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to improvise or adapt music when exercises or combinations change.
• Support students' musicality, rhythm, coordination, and artistic development through appropriate accompaniment.
Qualifications:
Previous experience accompany ballet or dance classes
