Arts On (the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Arts Council) provides opportunities for arts education for all ages, professional performing arts activities and support of artistic community initiatives across the Ridge Meadows region. The organization has been serving the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows since 1971.

Arts On Learning Programs, taking place in locations across the Ridge-Meadows region, include instruction and learning activities in the visual arts - painting, drawing, textile and fibre arts, ceramics and digital media - and in the performing arts of theatre, dance, and music. Learning programs are offered for a wide range of ages, from infants to seniors.

Job Description:

Arts On is currently seeking an enthusiastic contract instructor who is passionate about stage & screen acting as well as teaching, to design and deliver drama & acting programming at off-site locations across Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. This instructor will teach classes, workshops, and day camps for a range of ages, including children, youth, school groups, and adults.

Responsibilities:

  • Designing and leading engaging drama and theatre programs for children, teens, and adults in group settings

  • Teaching a range of acting techniques and theory including improvisation, collaboration, vocal technique, movement, and scene work

  • Providing constructive feedback and encouragement to support students’ artistic development and confidence

  • Maintaining a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment before, during, and after program sessions

  • Maintaining clear and responsive communication with Arts On’s staff and crews

  • Demonstrating professionalism, punctuality, and a strong commitment to student success and program excellence

Qualifications:

• Completion of post-secondary education in a BFA in Theatre or equivalent training and experience
• Significant experience teaching either Devised Theatre or Musical Theatre is an asset
• Minimum two years’ experience and proven track record as a dedicated teacher/instructor, working with young students of various ages and abilities
• Classroom management expertise – a high degree of independence and self-sufficiency is required for teaching all programs
• Availability to work a varied schedule including weekday & weekend daytimes & evenings, as well as day camps during Pro-D days and school holidays (half/full days)
• Reliable transportation, and ability to transport program supplies, to multiple locations around Pitt Meadows & Maple Ridge
• Interest and enthusiasm for the wide range of Arts On Learning programs
• Valid First Aid & CPR certificate an asset
• Must submit to a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check
