On August 23rd grunt gallery welcomed Karlene Harvey to the newly formed position of Communications Director. Karlene is a First Nations (Tsilhqot'in, Carrier and Okanagan) artist and communications professional based out of Vancouver, BC. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.

VICTORIA - The all-party Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services announced on September 7 its plans for conducting provincewide budget consultations. The consultations will begin once the Budget 2013 Consultation Paper is released by the Ministry of Finance.

"The consultation process provides an important opportunity for British Columbians to provide input on next year's provincial budget," said Committee Chair Douglas Horne. "We invite any interested individuals and organizations to participate," added Committee Member Mable Elmore.

As part of the Statistical Insights on the Arts series, Kelly Hill will conduct four presentations in 2012-13 for no speaking / preparation fee. The speaking fee (covering preparation time) is funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council in conjunction with their funding of the Statistical Insights on the Arts series.
 
Presenting organizations must pay for Kelly’s travel and accommodation expenses related to attending the event.
 

Opening in October 2012, Emily Carr University of Art + Design will have a studio space available for rent monthly (and starting January 2012 available to rent by 3 month term). This studio space will be available for rent by the general public and artistic community in Vancouver. The space will be resourced with a variety of tools such as light tables, easels, photo documentation station and will be supported by technicians who will be available to help within the studio space.

This Key Event Calendar, compiled by your Alliance for Arts and Culture, lists upcoming events in Vancouver through 2012. The list is designed to be a helpful guide to event planners, who will find the roster useful in avoiding scheduling conflicts.

Canada's Business for the Arts is pleased to invite you to a very special local Vancouver occasion to celebrate and honour Mo Dhaliwal, our own recipient of the very prestigious national Arnold Edinborough Prize.  The Arnold Edinborough Prize recognizes outstanding volunteerism in the arts by a Canadian business professional.  Mo was nominated by the Museum of Vancouver for his collaboration (with the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration Society) on its groundbreaking exhibition, Bhangra.me, which won the Canadian Museum Association's 2012 Award of Excellence.

There are only three weeks left until Culture Days 2012, and momentum is building! The Culture Days movement has been steadily growing in British Columbia, with over 250 activities registered in 46 municipalities to date, and more are being added every day.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 15, 2012, Vancouver, BC. The extensive collection of props belonging to the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company, which have been locked away since the company ceased operations earlier this year, will once again see the light of day on local stages.

The Renegade Arts Society is very pleased to announce that it has been granted custodianship of the large and invaluable collection that had been amassed over the Playhouse’s 49 years and includes props from literally thousands of plays and musicals.

This month PAL Vancouver and PAL Studio Theatre welcomed new Theatre Manager, Melanie Wickes. Melanie worked most recently with the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company and the Vancouver International Wine Festival. She looks forward to working with local companies, artists and PAL residents and supporters at such a unique and versatile space.
