The Rogue Folk Club is a registered non-profit society in the Province of British Columbia, formed in 1987 to present concerts of folk and roots music in Vancouver. Our mission statement is: "To promote and foster folk music and its cultural heritage through concerts, workshops, publications and other such means, thereby bringing the experience of folk music to as wide an audience as possible". The Rogue Folk Club provides a unique approach to concert presentation, offering audiences the opportunity to see and hear some of the most accomplished musicians and singers in the world in a relaxed, intimate setting. We present up to 50 concerts per year. Our shows generally take place at the Mel Lehan Hall at the St. James Community Square (3214 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver). All our events are open to folks of all ages, and we offer discounts to members, seniors, students and children.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Publicist is a key role within the Rogue Folk Club, responsible for managing, creating and generating all aspects of concert and club publicity, tracking concert ticket sales, managing membership growth, and supporting Rogue concerts by maintaining existing publicity relationships and establishing new ones. This role reports to the Artistic Director and works closely with the Admin Assistant. It is a hybrid position that includes in-person weekly meetings, internal publicity coordination, logistical execution, and direct engagement with contacts, club members, and audiences.
40 hrs/week
Hybrid – Remote & In Person

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and send media releases for each show using Constant Contact

  • Manage social media channels, including content creation and engagement

  • Create concert posters and rack cards using Canva, InDesign, or Photoshop

  • Deliver posters and rack cards to distributors and distribution points

  • Complete online event calendars for each show

  • Liaise with existing publicity contacts and develop new ones

  • Provide general support on concert days, including responding to patron inquiries and assisting with manual livestream ticketing

  • Attend weekly in-person staff meetings on Granville Island

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2–4 years of experience as a Publicist or in a similar role (e.g., event marketing)

  • Experience working independently and prioritizing multiple projects under tight deadlines

  • Experience managing social media accounts

  • Experience creating and maintaining websites

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent writing and editorial skills with strong attention to detail

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills; comfortable with spreadsheets and databases

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel or similar, Google Drive, Dropbox, and basic media file handling

  • Familiarity with digital PR strategies

  • Access to own computer

ASSETS

  • Understanding of concert/event marketing and logistics

  • Strong network of media contacts

  • Experience with InDesign, Canva, Photoshop or similar

  • Familiarity with Constant Contact

  • Familiarity with ticketing platforms

  • Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
