JOB DESCRIPTION:
Permanent Full-Time Position
8:30am to 4:30pm / Monday to Friday

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Systems Administrator, Windows is responsible for the administration, development, maintenance, and support of enterprise Microsoft technologies, including Windows servers, Active Directory, SQL databases, M365 applications, network services, WiFi, and SharePoint Services. The Systems Administrator ensures the efficient operation of the Microsoft components of University infrastructure, including cloud-based infrastructure. They provide Tier 2 technical support to the University community and lead or advise on systems design, technology planning, and backup support for other functions in Information Technology Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, maintain, and provide technical support for services such as databases, information systems (email, ERP integration, AD), and web applications in an AWS environment. Ensure security and integrity of information systems, communication channels, and data, including confidential information. Implement controls related to spam, phishing, unauthorized access, firewalls, user accounts, domain administration, and security vulnerabilities. Monitor security logs and respond to issues. Manage account provisioning.

  • Deploy and manage Microsoft servers and related systems and services in an AWS environment. Administer and maintain servers and services based on Microsoft enterprise technology, including Active Directory, Azure AD, and M365.

  • Provide technical support to users and ITS staff, including Tier 2 Help Desk support on security, Active Directory, applications, and other technical matters.

  • With ITS team members, design new systems, configure and administer servers and M365 services, manage security patching, analyze system logs, apply operating system updates, manage user accounts, and monitor performance and capacity.

  • Implement, propose, and provide fixes or enhancements to SharePoint websites and other services hosted on Microsoft servers.

  • Work with vendors on troubleshooting, new feature creation, and implementation.

  • Develop and maintain SharePoint sites and security settings and recommend additional architecture for test and production environments. Administer all SharePoint security settings.

  • Create and maintain documentation for server/software implementation, maintenance processes, and troubleshooting.

  • Participate in regular team status meetings and provide input on development and administration activities.

  • Act as backup during the absence of other ITS staff.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.

  • Minimum five years of technical experience with Microsoft enterprise products; some software experience required.

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with PowerShell, SharePoint Designer, InfoPath, Visual Studio, and VBScript.

  • Experience administering and configuring M365 applications such as Azure AD, Teams, email, and SharePoint Online.

  • Microsoft Certification Solutions Associate (MCSA) Windows Server preferred.

  • Knowledge of IT security best practices, processes, and tools required.

  • Microsoft Certification Solutions Expert (MCSE) SharePoint or equivalent is an asset.

  • Experience with Linux server environments is an asset.

  • Experience working in an ITIL-based service environment is an asset.

  • Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty.

  • Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Proven diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in C# and .NET using Visual Studio.

  • Proficient with Windows OS, Windows Server, SQL Server, IIS, Exchange, and Active Directory.

  • Comfortable working with AWS Infrastructure-as-a-Service.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

  • Ability to stay current in areas of expertise.

  • Ability to prioritize between project work and support issues.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

REMUNERATION
$72,763 to $77,896 per annum
