stɑl̓əw̓ Arts & Cultural Society is a female Indigenous-led non-profit organization, operating within the lands known today as Langley and Surrey, focused on uplifting the transmission of culture and knowledge, the reclamation of languages, and empowering Indigenous artists living in Coast Salish territories. We honor and respect the ancestors through gathering, mentorship, and community building initiatives. JOB DESCRIPTION:
We’re looking for a dynamic part-time Program Coordinator to support the development and delivery of community-focused activities, workshops, and events, with an emphasis on the organization’s annual stɑl̓əw̓ Pow Wow. This individual will work closely with stɑl̓əw̓’s small staff team; community partners; artists/artisans, cultural knowledge, and language keepers; and the public to share the passion and energy behind each project. This role reports to the Manager, Arts, Culture, and Language, and requires cultural sensitivity and strong communication skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in scheduling, budgeting, organizing, and advertising events. This role is also responsible for recruiting, training, and overseeing the volunteers needed to support stɑl̓əw̓’s activities, workshops, and events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Activity/workshop/event development, coordination, and management: scheduling; researching venues and facilitators; acquiring supplies; set-up, take down, oversight; adherence to event budget; collecting/sharing feedback
• Community engagement: communicating with community partners, venues, facilitators, prospective participants; event advertising and engagement; social media marketing; website updates
• Volunteer recruitment and management: maintain volunteer list and availability; communicate and schedule event support needs; train, evaluate, oversee volunteers at events
• Digital event documentation: record activities, workshops, and events using photography and videography
• Event facilitator contract management: maintain fee schedules; develop/manage facilitator contracts; evaluate contractor performance; review invoices to ensure timely payments

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Training in Arts, Fine/Visual Arts, Arts Education, Arts Administration, Community Engagement, Communication/Marketing, Media Studies and/or Graphic Design is an asset; demonstrated work experience will also be considered
• Previous experience coordinating, planning, set-up, working, and take-down of events; training/managing event staff; working in public settings with all age groups
• Previous experience developing and managing event contract agreements; managing event budgets; acquiring event-specific supplies
• Previous advertising/marketing experience, specifically creating social media and website content
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, social media platforms, website editing/maintenance
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with excellent communication/interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with non-profit processes
• Experience and knowledge of Coast Salish First Nations history, culture, Truth and Reconciliation, UNDRIP and DRIPA
• Driver’s licence and vehicle to support program delivery
