Ballet BC’s Annex project, a collaboration with Arts Umbrella Dance and Modus Operandi, offers an invaluable opportunity for schools and communities across BC to engage in world-class dance and educational programming. The Annex project tours schools in Metro Vancouver and throughout BC, bringing contemporary dance repertoire, professional performances, and workshops to student groups and audiences of all ages. Workshops and talkbacks led by dancers accompany each performance, offering insight into the choreographic process and the career path of a dancer. Students will learn excerpts from the performance and engage in creative dialogue.

POSITION: Touring Stage Manager, Ballet BC Annex
REPORTS TO: Associate Artistic Producer
JOB TYPE: Contractor, average of 20 hrs/week for 13 weeks starting August 11.
The Annex Touring Stage Manager will assist with pre-production logistics and planning related to touring and stage manage each performance for Ballet BC’s Annex project. This role will also accompany the Annex company on tour and act as the point of contact for all dancers and venue contacts while on the road
Responsibilities:
Touring Manager
- Maintain Annex database, entering current information on venues, contacts, crew, and dancers
- Prepare per diem requisitions for dancers and touring crew
- Assist the Technical Director in creating the touring schedule
- Create and distribute daily information sheets to dancers and touring crew including daily schedule, travel and accommodation information
- Book accommodations and transportation for local and out of town performances
- Connect with venue contacts in advance of arrival and accompany dancers and crew to each venue
- Launder costumes throughout tour and keep record of any repairs needed
- Organize catering for dancers and touring crew
- Keep records of pre-production and touring expenses incurred
- Attend scheduled production meetings as required
- Assist with production vehicle pack in advance of tour dates
Stage Manager
- Maintain dancer first aid and hospitality kit with Production Stage Manager
- Stage manage each performance, adapting to the needs of each venue
- Assist Stage Carpenter and Production and Technical Director with load in and strike at each venue
- Prepare stage and backstage/dressing room areas for dancers at each venue
- Keep show notes and records of each venue for archival purposes
Qualifications:
- First Aid Level 1 required, BBC will provide if candidate not up to date
- Stage management experience required, company management or administration experience an asset
- Requires flexibility and excellent communication and teamwork skills, and willingness to embrace an “outreach attitude”
- Experience or an interest in education and outreach and/or school touring an asset
