JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and visionary General Manager (GM) to oversee the day-to-day operations of IndigE-girl Comedy. The GM will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to support the strategic growth and sustainability of the organization. This role offers an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to the development of Indigenous comedy and help lead a movement for change and representation in the arts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Leadership:
Lead the daily operations of IndigE-girl Comedy and ensure effective program delivery
Oversee the coordination of all programs and events, including the Vancouver Winter showcase and biweekly gender-neutral open mics
Develop and implement strategic, business, and operational plans in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board
Manage administrative systems and ensure organizational alignment with mission and values
Prepare board materials and attend board meetings, contributing to strategic planning and organizational direction
Financial Oversight:
Develop and manage annual budgets; monitor expenditures and ensure fiscal responsibility
Oversee grant applications, reporting, and compliance in collaboration with the Artistic Producer and Executive Director
Ensure compliance with financial regulations, including charity returns, payroll, GST/HST, and CRA accounts
Grant & Fund Development:
Identify and pursue grant opportunities that align with programming
Maintain a grant calendar, including deadlines, eligibility, reporting dates, and anticipated funding releases
Build and maintain relationships with funders, sponsors, and community partners
Create and maintain grant templates and reporting tools in Google Drive for internal collaboration
Compliance & Systems:
Oversee CADAC reporting systems to maintain eligibility for operating and multi-year funding
Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations governing non-profit organizations
Help streamline internal systems for greater transparency and organizational efficiency
Staff & Volunteer Management:
Lead and support staff, contractors, and volunteers
Foster a healthy, inclusive, and collaborative workplace rooted in Indigenous values and decolonial practices
Research, implement, and maintain equitable hiring practices and professional development opportunities for Indigenous women
Community Engagement & Representation:
Act as a key public representative of IndigE-girl Comedy
Lead outreach efforts and build meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities and arts stakeholders
Advocate for Indigenous voices in comedy and support inclusive and trauma-informed practices
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Minimum 5 years of leadership or management experience in the non-profit, cultural, or arts sector
Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and demonstrated commitment to supporting Indigenous artists and communities
Proven track record in grant management, financial oversight, and project delivery
Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills
Experience with strategic planning, governance, and policy development
Knowledge of decolonial and trauma-informed practices in an Indigenous context
Preferred:
Post-secondary education is considered an asset, along with familiarity with Indigenous Business Practices and/or experience in Indigenous-led organizational management. Experience in the entertainment or performing arts industries
Familiarity with BC’s arts and non-profit funding landscape
Established relationships within Indigenous communities and networks in the arts and cultural sectors

REMUNERATION:
The General Manager position is currently offered at $36,000/year for approximately 20–24 hours per week. This is a part-time role aligned with our current project-based funding model and programming needs. As our organizational funding increases, there is strong potential for this position to expand into a full-time salaried role in the $48,000–$56,000/year range.
