Job Description
Are you passionate about ceramic arts and enjoy teaching various skill levels and techniques? Join the City of Surrey’s Culture Division and contribute to high quality arts education in the community.
Ceramic arts instruction may include, but is not limited to, wheel throwing, hand building, and surface decorating. Instructors may teach preschool, children, youth, and/or adult participants throughout the year, and may also choose to instruct youth and children’s camps during spring break and summer.
Responsibilities:
Provide clear, thorough, and patient instruction to registrants.
• Deliver course content that fosters technical skill building and individual expression.
• Develop and facilitate developmentally appropriate ceramic art classes that are engaging and accessible.
• Submit lesson plans and supply lists for each class, camp, or workshop.
• Independently set up, take down, and maintain program space.
• Provide a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
• Maintain, and guide participants in maintaining, a clean and safe studio environment.
• Option to develop new program offerings and content.
Required skills include:
• Able to assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials.
• Classroom management.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• Effective problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with initiative, as well as collaboratively within a team.
Qualifications:
We’re looking for dynamic, creative leaders with demonstrated knowledge and experience in art and art education. Our ideal candidates are effective communicators with strong classroom management skills.
The successful candidate must have:
• A degree/diploma in the area of visual arts, art education, or a related field or related experience.
• A minimum of one year previous teaching experience
• Current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate.
• A Valid BC Driver’s License is an asset.
