The Dance Centre is a not for profit, charitable organization and the operator of Vancouver’s cultural hub, The Dance Centre venue, located in downtown - a purpose-built facility dedicated to dance, owned by The Dance Foundation. In addition to operating one of Canada’s flagship dance facilities, The Dance Centre is a unique resource supporting BC’s vibrant and diverse dance community. Our mandate also includes providing uniquely designed services for dance professionals; nurturing interest and support for development of dance in BC through presentation of works, community engagement and outreach activities, information flow and networking promoting BC dance and expanding opportunities for BC’s dance sector. Our work focuses on supporting our members, working with an array of community and cross sector partnerships, to excel and fulfill their vision through the use of the multi-layered resources The Dance Centre has to offer including a venue comprising of 7 studios inclusive of a 150-seat black box production studio; 14 office, meeting spaces and other amenities. .

Job Description:

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of The Dance Centre facility and service-related activities - supporting The Dance Centre excel in its role as BC’s primary resource centre for dance. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week). Some evening and weekend assignments are expected; flexibility is required.

We seek a manager who is efficient and well organized; detail oriented, enjoys working with a diverse range of people and who can reinforce and cultivate a sense of community through ensuring great customer service in concert with Front of House staff and our Venue Services Associates as a team attentive to clients and visitors of The Dance Centre.

We expect the successful candidate to have a professional attitude, with ability to deal with spur-of-the moment challenges as well as with at times complex issues, and with capacity to develop recommendations. Work experience in the hospitality industry and customer service oriented mentality is an asset, as is a strong interest to work in the arts sector.

Compensation:

Salary: $48,000 - $51,000 (based on experience);

Benefits include: 4% vacation pay, additional paid days off during facility closure times (7-10 days annually); health benefits through the Alliance for Arts and Culture following 3 months of employment; professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities:

The Responsibilities of this Position include:

• Overseeing all aspects of venue rentals (bookings, invoicing, contracts, accounts receivable) and as the system administrator for the facility booking database (EventPro);
• Overseeing Front of House and on-call Venue Services Associates (recruitment, training and management);
• Overseeing safety and emergency procedures for the venue;
• Liaising with the Technical Director ensuring client needs are met and contracts/ billings are accurate; working closely with the Comptroller (invoicing, contracts, payables, banking, and cheque runs); the Associate Director of Programming regarding in-house programs and other staff;
• Liaising with tenants regarding lease arrangements, maintenance, security, other service issues related issues;
• Liaising with the property management company, maintenance, and custodial contractors regarding facility regular and arising service/ maintenance issues;
• Resolving concerns from renters regarding the facility or account related issues;
• Data generation, analysis, reporting as requested by the Executive Director; assisting with grant administration; Assists the Executive Director in keeping calendar of events/ schedules and filings;
• Maintaining office systems and equipment, liaises with suppliers, technicians, and vendors.
• Strong communication skills and administrative experience in business accounting and correspondence, implementation of policies and procedures (including recommendations);

Qualifications:

Qualification Required / Expected

• Preferred minimum 3 years in a customer facing/ service oriented environment (arts context is an asset), with excellent record of accomplishments;
• Experience in human resources and recruitment;
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel; database management; strong network/ computer trouble shooting skills are an asset;
• Strong organizational/ time management skills with the ability to work under pressure towards deadlines;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Works with great accuracy and attention to detail; flexibility in hours is periodically required to attend to periodic evening or week-end related events.
