Organization Description:

The Vancouver Chamber Choir was founded in 1971 by Jon Washburn and is one of Canada's premier professional choral ensembles. Now in its 56th season, the choir has been led by Artistic Director Kari Turunen since September 2019.

Noted for its diverse repertoire and performing excellence, the choir has presented concerts to audiences at home in Vancouver and on tour across Canada and around the world. Honoured with the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence, by Chorus America, the choir has performed countless concerts and broadcasts, released 36 recordings and has received numerous awards. Foremost supporters of Canadian music, it is responsible for commissions and premieres of nearly 400 choral works by over 150 composers and arrangers, most of whom are Canadian.

In addition to its busy performance schedule the choir annually offers a suite of award-winning educational and outreach programs for singers, composers and conductors.

Job Description:

The Marketing and Events Coordinator is a full-time hybrid position, with 60% of working hours spent in office. We are open to the position being part-time for the right candidate. The Vancouver Chamber Choir offices are located on the traditional and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. Working hours and locations vary with rehearsal, performance, and event scheduling. Evening and weekend work are required for performances, events, and other programming.
The successful candidate will work with the General Manager, Artistic Director, Fund Development, and Director of Operations and Outreach to ensure successful planning and implementation of marketing and event strategies and logistics, social media content creation, newsletter creation, branding, and relationship building. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to website updates, CRM updates, and event ticketing.

Responsibilities:

• Social media content creation
• Development and execution of annual media plan alongside GM
• Assist Administration in event planning, logistics, and execution
• Collect and create video and photo content for use in social media, advertising, digital platforms, granting and fundraising purposes, and collateral
• Regular posting to VCC’s social channels and digital platforms
• Build VCC’s digital and traditional advertising campaigns to support concerts, tours, recordings, and educational activities
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with singers, community partners, colleagues, audiences, and donors
• Maintain communication across departments
• Attendance at performances and special events including front of house management
• Attendance at rehearsals as required
• Respond to ticketing and donation requests received and enter into CRM database
• Collateral material creation in conjunction with administrative team
• Facilitate concert program creation in collaboration with internal team and external Typesetter
• Prepare weekly e-newsletter to be sent to stakeholder mailing list
• Build relationships with local media

Qualifications:

• Excellent English writing, communication and proofreading skills
• 1-3 years experience in a related position (experience with not-for-profit arts organizations is an asset)
• An understanding of social media channels
• An understanding of choral music and the classical music industry is an asset
• An ability to work independently and with the flexibility to adjust to various working environments, from quiet planning moments to busy production weeks
• Familiarity with email marketing software (Constant Contact)
• Design abilities (graphic and/or video) and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite or other design tools; ability to work with MS Office applications
• Familiarity with ticketing or CRM platforms is an asset

Remuneration:

$38 000 - $50 000 per annum based on experience
