Black Arts Vancouver is a community organization focused on leading Black-led programming in Vancouver, BC. We hold events and workshops centred around Black expression and Afro-Canadian history at no cost to families and youth, and we are dedicated to uplifting Black artists in Vancouver with paid and volunteering opportunities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
In the role of Treasurer, you would provide financial oversight, help with budgeting, and participate in monthly board meetings. This is a four-month contract beginning in January 2026 with the opportunity for renewal, and includes full voting rights and fiduciary responsibility. The maximum 2 hours/month time commitment includes monthly, remote-friendly board meetings, committee work or strategic planning sessions, occasional document review, community engagement, or mentorship. This is an unpaid position with the opportunity for non-traditional compensation/benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Keep accounting records in respect of the Society's financial transactions.
Prepare the Society's financial statements.
Make the Society's filing respecting taxes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional experience in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping (CPA designation is an asset but not required).
Familiarity with Canadian charitable organization financial practices and CRA reporting requirements.
Experience with cloud-based accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or similar).
Commitment to transparency, accuracy, and accountability in financial oversight.
Ability to present financial information clearly to a non-financial audience (e.g., board members).
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Strategic leadership experience; prior involvement with board membership or executive leadership preferred.
Requirements:
Must be a B.C. resident.
Must provide a CRC with Vulnerable Sector check.
