CALL FOR ARTISTS:
The City of Surrey is inviting expressions of interest to design and paint a mural at Newton Seniors Centre. The Newton Seniors Centre is a multipurpose facility that offers a home away from home for local seniors. Since the Centre was built in 1992, programs have expanded in response to the interests of its senior membership. Activities reflect the welcoming atmosphere cultivated over the years, including music, arts, crafts, cards, and games. At the heart of the centre is the cafeteria, a place to nourish and connect with community. The mural will be located on the Centre’s entry façade, a stucco surface framing a small courtyard with flowering plants and trees. Across the way is the Newton Library, and nearby are the Newton Recreation Centre and Arena. This area will also be the future site of the Newton Community Centre. It is a beloved, multigenerational hub full of life. The mural will beautify the façade and make all people feel welcome, inspired by themes of friendship, support, and togetherness.

HOW TO APPLY:
Please submit expressions of interest to Public Art at publicart@surrey.ca with the subject line: Newton Seniors Centre – (Your Name). Your Expression of Interest must include: Contact Details (name, address, email, and phone number); Letter of Intent (max 300 words) outlining your interest in the project and site; CV (including past commissions, exhibitions, education, and/or relevant experience; if applying as a team, include one for each member); Artist Statement (max 300 words); Portfolio (up to 10 images of past work, including titles, date, description, and materials); and combine all items into a single PDF document (10MB maximum).

FEES/COMPENSATION:
The total budget for the selected artwork is $15,000, inclusive of artist fees, design, materials and equipment, insurance, fabrication, travel, and taxes. Each shortlisted artist or team will receive an honorarium of $700 to further develop their concept proposal.
