The North Vancouver Community Arts Council (North Van Arts) is a grassroots, social-profit, charitable cultural organization dedicated to maximizing the intrinsic value of the arts in all media. Its mandate is to enable emerging and professional artists in all disciplines, bridge cultures, and build strong and healthy communities through the arts. North Van Arts is a vibrant and dynamic organization of over 400 members, proudly serving citizens of the North Shore and artists from across Metro Vancouver and beyond.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
North Van Arts offers a range of arts programming for children, youth, and adults across two North Vancouver locations:

  • CityScape Gallery (Lower Lonsdale): Public exhibition space, home to Date Nights and select workshops.

  • Maplewood House (Dollarton): Light-filled heritage building beside the Seymour River, the primary space for courses, workshops, and children’s camps.

Programming includes adult and youth 4-week courses in painting, drawing, print, and textiles; children’s spring and summer camps; and monthly Date Nights. Arts Education Instructors design and deliver engaging, skill-based classes and workshops aligned with North Van Arts programming, bringing their artistic practice into safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, skill-based classes aligned with North Van Arts programming.

  • Prepare supply lists and work within budget and organizational resources.

  • Arrive 30 minutes before sessions for set-up and remain for clean-up.

  • Manage classrooms safely and inclusively following organizational standards.

  • Represent North Van Arts professionally and share information about programs.

  • Participate in post-program feedback and evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior teaching experience leading workshops, classes, or community programs.

  • Equivalent professional experience (e.g., practicing artist with exhibitions, commissions, or sales).

  • Proven experience teaching in visual or crafting art forms with strong artistic outcomes.

  • Excellent communication with students, parents, and staff.

  • Demonstrated responsibility and punctuality.

  • Two professional references.

  • Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector Search) for children’s programs (fee covered by NVA).
    Preferred:

  • First Aid or other relevant certifications.

  • Experience working with diverse learners and communities.

REMUNERATION:
$35/hour (includes set-up, prep, and clean-up). Approved supply reimbursement provided. Payment via e-transfer within five business days after the last class. Hours vary depending on the program (from single workshops to full-week camps). Programs take place at Maplewood House, CityScape Gallery, or online.
