About the British Columbia Council of Film Unions:
The Council is a trade union established in 1995 in British Columbia and is comprised of three founding member unions: IATSE Local 891, Teamsters Local Union 155, and ICG 669. The Council represents the shared interests of the member unions as reflected in the Collective Agreements it bargains with Negotiating Producers represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and the Canadian Motion Picture Association (CMPA). Since 1996, the BC Council’s Master & Supplemental Collective Agreements have provided terms and conditions of employment covering the majority of unionized employees in the motion picture industry in the Province of British Columbia.
The purposes of the British Columbia Council of Film Unions are to act as the Union in all matters regarding collective agreements with the Negotiating Producers.

About this position:
Working out of the Burnaby office, the Executive Director takes direction from the principal officers and responds to the needs of the three constituent unions representing more than 12,000 members/employees. The role involves interfacing with up to fifty productions at any given time, guiding, organizing and participating in collective bargaining, and offering strategic leadership to the Council. The Executive Director oversees a staff of 3–4 employees, coordinates legal services, advisors and consultants, and manages the day-to-day affairs of the Council. They serve as the chief administrative employee and function as an “ambassador” of the organization to employers, government, and the public.
The Executive Director is responsible for supervising, conducting and controlling all business and affairs of the Council, its officers and employees, subject to the approval of the Council Executive Board.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific areas of responsibility include:
Responding to and proactively addressing issues arising from the administration of collective agreements on behalf of the constituent unions, including pursuing grievances and negotiating settlements.
Overseeing accounting and budgeting for the Council, with appropriate professional accounting support.
Managing website and IT services via external vendors.
Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
Attending and participating in key industry meetings related to the motion picture industry as needed.
Hiring and supervising key employees and contracted service providers.
Interfacing with government, various agencies, staff of the constituent unions, and other unions/organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
About you:
You are skilled in providing strategic guidance, leadership, community engagement and management in labour relations matters. You are a strong communicator and attentive listener with experience overseeing multiple projects, managing stakeholder interests and demonstrating strong negotiation and relationship-building skills. Experience in or knowledge of the film and television industry is highly desirable. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
In particular, you have the following skills and experience:
At least 5 years’ experience in a leadership position (non-profit leadership experience preferred but not required).
Experience in collective bargaining.
Appointment(s) to boards of directors in a governance capacity.
Excellent time-management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
Proficiency in Word, data management software, Excel, and adaptability to changing technology.
Excellent English writing and communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
Experience with public speaking, including speaking to the media and government agencies.
Proven ability to organize, motivate, take initiative and exercise good judgment.
Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships with professionalism and integrity.

REMUNERATION:
The starting salary range is $130,000–$170,000 based on experience and includes a generous benefits package.
